Objective: To understand the spiritual needs of the patients' family caregiver under Oncology palliative care. Method: A descriptive, qualitative study with 20 family caregivers of patients hospitalized in an Oncology palliative unit. The data were collected through a phenomenological interview, and analyzed by the method of Amadeo Giorgi supported in the Merleau-Ponty's Phenomenology of Perception. Results: The categories were unveiled: "Spirituality as a foundation for life"; "Spiritual needs sublimated by the family caregiver"; and "Care expected by the nurse". Conclusion: Family caregivers appropriate spirituality as a coping strategy and meeting the purpose and meaning of the moment experienced. It is profitable for the nurse to contemplate the spiritual needs of the caregiver in order to provide a guided assistance in the humanization of care and comprehensive care. Therefore, there is a need for new studies that address this dimension to the family caregiver in the field of Oncology, since this care is incipient by the nurse.

Breast cancer remains significantly distressing and produces profound changes in women’s lives. Spirituality is an important resource at the time of diagnosis and treatment decisions. This qualitative study aimed to explore the spiritual experience of women diagnosed with breast cancer and the considerations of spirituality in health care using the existential phenomenology approach. The sampling procedure was intentional, based on the study’s exclusion and inclusion criteria. Forty women participated in individual interviews. The research was conducted in the outpatient clinic of a reference federal university hospital in South-Eastern Brazil. Throughout the research process, ethical principles were carefully followed. Five themes were identified: (1) meaning of spirituality–source of spiritual strength, (2) well-being in the relationship with God, (3) well-being in religious fellowship, (4) values and purpose of life–meaning in life, and (5) spirituality as a foundation to continue. Respect for patient’s spiritual values was recognised as a fundamental principle in health care. Spirituality was revealed as a source of support during the complex process of being diagnosed with breast cancer. Thus, health care professionals that value and encourage spirituality are needed, favouring better patient response to the diagnosis.

Refletir sobre a inferência da dimensão espiritual e o sentido da vida na prática do cuidado de Enfermagem prestado aos pacientes. Trata-se de estudo reflexivo sobre o cuidado de Enfermagem, centrado na dimensão espiritual e sentido da vida, pautado em pressupostos fenomenológicos existenciais. A articulação do estudo com a fenomenologia possibilitou compreender que o cuidado, como fenômeno da Enfermagem, ocorre em um mundo de vivências e experiências intersubjetivas e que o despertar da consciência por meio de valores motiva o sentido da vida, além de possibilitar ao cuidar um leque de possibilidades de propósitos e significados para a existência. Concluiu-se que o cuidado centrado no sentido da vida tendo como alicerce a dimensão espiritual possibilita ao profissional de Enfermagem abertura para transformação interior, desenvolvimento pessoal e, consequentemente, aprimoramento de suas ações de cuidado de maneira humana, holística, integral e, sobretudo, ética.

BackgroundThe breast cancer diagnosis causes a high level of suffering and distress in patients who experience difficulties in coping. There is a need to improve knowledge of emotional and spiritual coping in response to the stressful situation of women who must face this diagnosis.ObjectivesThe aims of this study were to map women's spiritual and emotional coping experiences reported after a breast cancer diagnosis and examine the proposed interventions and suggestions for clinical practice.MethodsA scoping review was performed by searching the Scientific Electronic Library Online, Scopus, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Latin American & Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Medical Literature Analyses and Retrieval System Online, Spanish Bibliographic Index of Health Sciences, PSYCINFO, and Google Scholar databases using Medical Subject Headings terms. Additional pertinent studies were identified by reviewing the bibliographies of the included studies. Twenty articles were included according to the recommendations for scoping reviews.ResultsStudy findings regarding emotional and spiritual coping with the diagnosis and proposed interventions were synthesized. A thematic list of interventions and recommendations for clinical practice is also provided.ConclusionsThe studies demonstrated that women with breast cancer are challenged by their emotions and experiences. The review highlights the importance of spiritual coping for redefining women's meaning in life. In clinical practice, caring for women's inherent needs when they are coping with a diagnosis is important to establish integral care.Implications for PracticeNurses can evaluate coping strategies, offer support for adaptation to the disease, provide qualified listening, help women in their search for significance while coping with cancer, and help them identify ways to overcome this stressful situation. Similarly, they can encourage patients to find spiritual comfort and emotional support.

Objectives: To report the experience in teaching internship in the elective discipline “Spirituality in the Health Field” of the curriculum of the graduation course in Nursing of Universidade Federal Fluminense. Methods: This is a case report with descriptive-reflexive approach of the class “the meaning of life as spiritual care strategy in the nursing practice”. For the elaboration of the discipline, a lesson plan and active methodologies were used. Results: The strategy used for preparation of the class allowed transmitting and constructing knowledge objectively. The reflections disclosed along with students showed the importance of the meaning of life as spiritual care in nursing practices for the health professional and for the act of being cared for. Final considerations: The class was considered a successful experience, as the theme proposed was essential for the theoretical-reflective construction about spirituality and meaning of life as a form of care that transcends technical procedures.

Objective: To analyze health as a right from the perspective of care of the self, in the conception of nursing professionals. Method: Qualitative study, carried out in a Federal Hospital of the city of Rio de Janeiro, with the participation of 10 nurses and 20 nursing technicians through interviews recorded, transcribed and analyzed in light of the Discursive Textual Analysis. Results: Two categories emerged: Health as the right of professionals and their "non-right" to health; and Care of the self for the health professional: work and torture. Conclusion: There are many challenges to overcome, such as the search for satisfactory public funding, the need to improve the quality of Primary Health Care services, the implementation of a care model compatible with the country's demographic and epidemiological situation; all professionals need an effective endorsement for care of the self, such as their knowledge of the right to health.

Introdução: Trata-se de um estudo de revisão de literatura com abordagem descritiva. Objetivo: Descrever os aspectos relativos à vacina quadrivalente, encontrados na literatura científica nacional e internacional, quanto à sua descrição química, indicações, esquema vacinal, apresentação e conservação, interação com outras vacinas, duração da proteção, proteção cruzada, segurança, contraindicações, imunogenicidade, reações adversas, eficácia e impacto epidemiológico e econômico. Método: Foi realizado um levantamento de produções nas bases de dados eletrônicas Lilacs e Medline, no período entre 2005 e 2009. Dos 70 documentos encontrados, 35 foram selecionados, pois agregavam informações sobre os diversos aspectos técnicos e práticos da vacina quadrivalente. De posse desses documentos, foi realizada leitura analítica com organização por temas e sua apresentação. Resultados: Entre as informações mais relevantes, se pode citar que está indicada para mulheres entre 9 e 26 anos, antes da iniciação sexual, sendo administrada em três doses; possui eficácia comprovada contra os sorotipos nela presentes, sendo altamente imunogênica e com garantia de proteção por cinco anos; é segura, não havendo risco de infecção com a sua administração e com efeitos adversos locais leves a moderados. Conclusão: O trabalho demonstrou que há importantes lacunas do conhecimento sobre a vacina que ainda necessitam ser esclarecidas.
