Purpose This study aimed to determine the anxiety level of candidate nurses and capture their perspective on the nursing profession in light of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. Design and Methods This descriptive study consisted of 322 nursing students in Turkey after the pandemic announcement of the World Health Organization. A web‐based survey was used and anxiety levels was determined via State Anxiety Scale and Beck Anxiety Inventory. Findings Positive perspectives (63.4%) on the nursing profession before the pandemic decreased to 50.6%, whereas the negative (26.7%), and the undecided (9.9%) perspectives increased to 32.3% and 17.1%, of the total respectively. A significant increase was found in the anxiety scores with negative perspectives combined with an unwillingness to practice their profession in the future ( P < .05). Practice Implications Pregraduate training should be provided to candidate nurses about pandemic nursing and professional difficulties they may possibly encounter in infection epidemics.

Covid-19 which emerged in Wuhan, China in December 2019, is an infectious disease caused by coronavirus and causes serious respiratory infections. The Covid-19 disease was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020 due to its easy and rapid spread and affecting many countries globally. This rapid spread also increased the number of individuals infected with the virus worldwide. Unfortunately, deaths resulting from the disease cannot be prevented and the number of individuals who lost their lives continues to increase rapidly. Elective surgery of individuals who are infected or at risk can be postponed in pandemics with such a high rate of infectiousness and disease-related mortality. However, if the absence or postponement of the surgery is life-threatening, performing the surgery becomes inevitable. An individual infected or possibly infected with the Covid-19 virus may pose many risks during the surgical procedure, which requires taking some additional precautions before, during, and after surgery. In addition to the normal surgical process, perioperative nursing care should focus on some specific issues during the pandemic, which is improving the treatment success of the patients, improving the quality of the care, ensuring that the Covid-19 disease is overcome without complications, and preventing the transmission of the disease to other individuals. Thus, the perioperative nursing care of the Covid-19 patients with the possible or definitive diagnosis was discussed considering the available literature.

The purpose of the study is to determine the effect of Covid-19 Phobia on the work stress and psychological resilience of nurses exposed to surgical smoke in the operating room emergency surgical interventions. This study was designed as descriptive and correlational research, and it was conducted with 160 nurses working in the operating room units of three different hospitals in Türkiye between the dates of August 2020 and May 2021. The work stress scale, brief resilience scale, and Covid-19 phobia scale (C19P-S) were used for data collection. It was determined that the mean work stress score of the nurses was high with a score of 40.11±4.91, the mean score for psychological resilience was moderate with a score of 15.00±3.95, and the mean score for C19P-S was high with a score of 71.58±15.45. There was a significant negative strong (r: -.706) correlation found between Covid-19 phobia and psychological resilience. It was found that there was a positive moderate significant correlation (r: .589) between Covid-19 phobia and work stress (p<0.05). Covid-19 phobia was determined high for nurses exposed to surgical smoke, Covid-19 phobia increased work stress for nurses and negatively affected their psychological resilience level.
