A crescente busca por tratamentos de excelência que cumpram as exigências da estética dentária, aliadas aos avanços dos materiais dentários favoreceram a evolução das facetas dentárias que resultam em uma estética satisfatória com uma maior preservação do elemento dentário, resposta a um menor desgaste para inclusão do material restaurador, mas o uso indiscriminado da técnica de preparo de facetas pode causar injúrias ao tecido periodontal. Assim com a finalidade de reunir e resumir conhecimento científico sobre o tema, este estudo é classificado como uma revisão bibliográfica integrativa com caráter exploratório, tendo como base de dados periódicos da área de saúde como: Scielo, Google Acadêmico e Pubmed publicados entre 2003 à 2021, filtrados através de descritores, selecionando 5 livros e 17 artigos, utilizados como embasamento teórico. Evidenciando diversos posicionamentos sobre o tema, apontando o surgimento das facetas em resina composta como uma excelente alternativa de tratamento para problemas estéticos em dentes anteriores, sendo a mais conservadora, com resultado imediato, que possibilita controlar a cor e a forma dos dentes restaurados assemelhando cada vez mais ao esmalte e a dentina, apresentando baixo custo, que utiliza material com espessura adequada para melhor resultado, entretanto é necessário que princípios como o espaço biológico, sejam inalterados durante os procedimentos, para não causar alterações patológicas. O uso das facetas em resina composta pode impactar tecido periodontal requerendo uma avaliação detalhada, com domínio sobre a técnica e respeitando os protocolos existentes, mantendo a margem gengival mínima de 3 mm, para não causar inflamação gengival e sequelas periodontais.
