A pandemia de COVID-19 impôs ao mundo o isolamento social como forma de proteção à saúde e à vida. Desenvolvimento: Para melhor compreender o impacto desta medida sobre a violência e a demanda por intervenções psicossociais, conduzimos este estudo teórico baseado na literatura internacional publicada sobre o tema entre os meses de janeiro e agosto de 2020. Resultados: Os estudos, revisões e críticas encontradas mostram significativo aumento nos índices de violência que chegaram a triplicar ou aumentar entre 10% a 50% em diferentes países, comparado a períodos anteriores. Os achados levam à discussão sobre a interação retroalimentada entre variáveis contextuais, saúde mental e comportamento agressivo. Para identificar a violência são sugeridos recursos virtuais e mídia, parcerias com vizinho, familiares, consultas e telemedicina com forte incentivo à denúncia como ação necessária. Discussão: É reconhecido que práticas interventivas demandam ações pessoais, sociais, organizacionais e governamentais que, por sua complexidade, requerem o trabalho de equipes multidisciplinares incluindo psicólogos, médicos psiquiatras e de outras especialidades, assistentes sociais e consultores jurídicos. Sugerimos pesquisas qualitativas e quantitativas para o desenvolvimento de novas práticas e avaliação a curto, médio e longo prazo daquelas já implementadas.
