linical, dermoscopic, and histopathologic features of balloon cell melanoma (BCM), a rarely encountered subtype of melanoma, have not been well characterized. Histopathologically, distinguishing a melanoma from a nevus in the setting of prominent balloon cell features may be challenging. This report highlights the clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathologic features of 2 cases of thin balloon cell melanoma, along with the role of adjunctive gene expression profiling in confirming a diagnosis of balloon cell melanoma.
The development of cutaneous metastases from gastrointestinal malignancies are rare, but they have been previously reported secondary to primary colorectal adenocarcinoma in relation to advanced disease. This case report describes a phenomenon of rapidly developing cutaneous and liver metastases within weeks, from a stage 3 rectal adeno carcinoma operated with curative intent.A literature review of similar cases was made and contrasted to the rapidity and stage of this aggressive tumour. The current guidelines are also reflected on, as well as the rate of recurrence with different modalities of treatment.
