O metilfenidato, considerado uma anfetamina, é comercializado como Ritalina e deveria ser utilizado somente por pessoas que possuem transtorno de Déficit de Atenção/Hiperatividade (TDAH). Devido a alta demanda de energia e foco nos estudos, houve um crescimento no uso de substâncias que auxiliem no foco e no rendimento, como o metilfenidato. Assim, essa pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar o número dos estudantes de Maringá-PR que praticam essa automedicação, com qual frequência, sob qual influência e os seus efeitos adversos. A metodologia foi a aplicada e a amostra contou com 211 universitários, os dados foram analisados de forma quantitativa e qualitativa. A partir dos resultados, foi observada a alta prevalência do uso de metilfenidato associada à busca pela alta performance no ambiente acadêmico. No entanto, evidencia-se o elevado número da prática sem prescrição médica, o que acarreta riscos para a saúde, com efeitos colaterais relatados, representando um grande problema de saúde pública para a cidade de Maringá-PR.
