Objetivo: Comparar os determinantes de risco entre pré-escolares de escola pública e particular na cidade do Recife. Método: Foi utilizado um questionário, aplicado aos pais ou responsável legal da criança por meio de entrevista para identificar os fatores socioeconômicos e demográficos das crianças que frequentam a escola da rede pública municipal e privada. Foram incluídas no estudo todas as crianças, de ambos os gêneros, na faixa etária de quatro a seis anos, que frequentavam regularmente a escola, no período de abril a agosto de 2010; e excluídas as que apresentavam diagnósticos neurológicos ou que eram portadoras de deformidades osteoarticulares, deficiência visual, auditiva ou cognitiva. Participaram da amostra 40 crianças, sendo 20 da escola pública municipal e 20, da particular. Resultados: As crianças da escola pública apresentaram-se mais expostas aos determinantes de risco para o desenvolvimento infantil que aquelas da escola particular. Conclusão: Sendo assim, salienta-se a importância da presença do profissional de saúde junto à equipe escolar, a fim de identificar de forma precoce esses determinantes para que sejam tomadas medidas preventivas que visem o desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor adequado na infância.
