SynopsisCurrent magnetic bearing technology does not meet the requirements for direct application in a wet sour gas environment. This paper focuses on technology enhancements and validation tests to extend their use to such applications. ABSTRACTAs oil and gas reserves become more sour, the need for components that can withstand operation in contact with these process fluids is increasing. Current magnetic bearing technology does not meet the requirements for direct application in a wet sour gas environment. Magnetic bearings developed with components meeting NACE guidelines will eliminate the need for additional equipment and make operations more maintenance friendly and less costly. Developing magnetic bearings for wet sour gas applications raises several challenges, especially finding materials with good corrosion resistance and magnetic properties. This paper covers details of the material selection, validation testing and field commissioning for this application.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
