O estudo das características da exposição ocupacional a poeiras no beneficiamento de rochas ornamentais em marmorarias teve como base a aplicação das convenções adotadas pela American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), pela International Organization for Standardization (ISO) e pelo Comité Europeén de Normalisation (CEN) para a classificação de poeiras por faixa de tamanhos de partícula. Foram consideradas as relações entre as concentrações de poeira nos ambientes de trabalho, os tipos de rochas trabalhadas, as operações a úmido e a seco, as máquinas e as ferramentas utilizadas e os tamanhos das partículas suspensas no ar. Os ambientes de trabalho das marmorarias mostraram altas concentrações de poeira nas frações inalável, torácica e respirável, originadas pelas ferramentas utilizadas no setor de acabamento a seco. As concentrações de sílica chegaram a ser 16 vezes superiores ao valor do limite de exposição ocupacional de 0,05 mg/m³. A avaliação de uma marmoraria que adotou acabamento a úmido mostrou que a probabilidade das concentrações ambientais ultrapassarem os valores de referência ocupacionais pôde ser reduzida em até 99%.

O mercado produtor tem procurado alternativas para o fornecimento desse bem mineral por outros processos que não seja a lavra em aluviões de rios, que se encontra em franca exaustão e gera um enorme passivo ambiental, restando, como alternativa, a lavra de areia diretamente nas barragens de usinas hidrelétricas. Esse processo gera um efluente que é lançado diretamente no curso d'água, provocando um sensível aumento na turbidez. Esse trabalho propõe medidas que visam a diminuir a turbidez do efluente através do uso de reagentes coagulantes. Foram testadas diversas substâncias coagulantes, concluindose pela utilização do sulfato de alumínio. Palavras-chave:Qualidade das águas, turbidez, produção de areia.
REUTILIZAÇÃO E RECICLAGEMDevido ao material, argila, a argila expandida é reciclável, pois pode ser submetida ao mesmo tratamento e se tronará argila expandida novamente (SCOBRAR, 2016), se por acaso, for quebrada.Pode ser reutilizada, devido à alta resistência química e física, exceto quando estiver dentro das estruturas de concreto. Nesse caso, deverá passar pelo sistema de reciclagem de entulhos na construção civil. NORMA BRASILEIRA (NBR)A NBR NM 35 cujo título é ¨Agregados leves para concreto estrutural: especificação¨, se refere à granulometria de agregados no concreto. No entanto, não há normas dentro da ABNT para os usos em jardinagem, isolamento acústico ou térmico específicas para a argila expandida. MÃO DE OBRAApesar de sempre ser necessário uma mão de obra especializada nos trabalhos da engenharia civil, não há necessidade de mão de obra de alta especialização, especificamente, para o uso da argila expandida na construção, no entanto, como agregado do concreto, a especialidade da mão de obra está associada à confecção do concreto dentro do uso da granulometria correta desse agregado. CUSTOSA argila expandida é mais cara do que os materiais que ela substitui, de um modo geral, o que a torna viável é a diminuição do peso da alvenaria, que diminui a quantidade de concreto, de um modo geral, na obra.Para alguns serviços, como o isolamento térmico feito em algumas casas com a plantação de grama no telhado, o uso de terra tornaria difícil a execução em casas já construídas devido ao peso e tornaria a construção nova mais cara para a confecção dos pilares e vigas. Então, usar a argila expandida, gera um melhor custo benefício quando se propõe uma casa verde com isolamento térmico.Para um exemplo simples, se se decidir cobrir uma área de 7,5 m2 de um jardim com argila expandida, apenas para efeito visual, e considerando apenas uma camada de granulometria 22/32 mm, equivalente à Brita 2, de 10 cm, o volume será de 0.75 m3 serão necessários 15 sacos de 50 L de argila expandida, gerando um custo de
