Los retos para las cadenas agro-productivas se enmarcan en la eficiencia, no solo desde los costos sino también desde la capacidad de adaptación a los cambios del entorno. El objetivo del estudio es analizar las actividades de las seis principales cadenas agro-productivas de Huancavelica y su influencia en la dimensión económica del desarrollo agrícola sostenible de la provincia de Huancavelica. Se recopiló el estado de arte, tanto en la fase heurística como hermenéutica sobre cadenas agro-productivas y su relación con el desarrollo agrícola sostenible, recurriendo al motor de búsqueda Google Académico utilizando ecuaciones de búsqueda y operadores booleanos, posteriormente se realizó una encuesta utilizando un cuestionario estructurado de 12 preguntas a una muestra por conveniencia de 60 productores agropecuarios de la provincia de Huancavelica. Dada la alta competencia que enfrentan estas cadenas, son necesarias las evaluaciones internas y externas para su constitución con planeamiento en fases de almacenamiento, clasificación e industrialización que, actualmente siguen llevándose a cabo manualmente, siendo todavía insuficiente el apoyo que se recibe de organizaciones profesionales que fomentan la industrialización, el comercio y la producción. Se resalta entre las conclusiones que, gracias a las cadenas agro-productivas el desarrollo agrícola sostenible en su dimensión económica tiene un índice de sostenibilidad de IDS = 0.53 en Huancavelica, que equivale a la calificación como estado del sistema inestable, por lo que hace falta todavía la implementación de un nuevo modelo de gestión tecnológica en los procesos de dichas cadenas, y urge el uso de nuevas tecnologías y herramientas en todo su proceso.
