El presente articulo tuvo como propósito: Desarrollar una propuesta de eficiencia energética para la mejora de las operaciones de la Central Térmica Esmeraldas I. La necesidad obedece a que la demanda energética en la región va aumentando de manera progresiva, mientras que los suministros se ven comprometidos por factores como la obsolescencia de los sistemas, las pérdidas originadas por deficiencias de los procesos y por la pandemia. Esto llevó a determinar la realidad presente en la planta para hacer una propuesta con un carácter de naturaleza estratégica, dado que las investigaciones y la literatura consultada se orientan en acciones tácticas de mejora. La investigación fue de naturaleza cuantitativa bajo la modalidad de proyecto factible, apoyada en una investigación de campo y documental, con un diseño no experimental transversal. La población estuvo caracterizada por 20 operadores de la termoeléctrica al que se le aplicó como técnica la encuesta, usando un instrumento tipo cuestionario de 9 preguntas para caracterizar las variables de estudio. El resultado mostró que la cantidad de combustible es la adecuada, aunque hay la apreciación de falta en la calidad del mismo, que lleva a que se produzcan niveles preocupantes de emisiones al ambiente, en parte por falta de capacitación y motivación del recurso humano y a la sinceración de los ingresos para invertir en nuevos desarrollos. Se establecieron los condicionantes endógenos y exógenos presentes en la termoeléctrica que sustentaron el plan de mejora de la eficiencia de la propuesta, que está estructurada en 6 fases, con un enfoque orientado a lo estratégico. Esta propuesta puede variar en sus fases dependiendo si se llevan acciones concretas de adecuaciones que se tienen proyectadas para este año.
