The online learning should be limited by principles and apply proper strategies. One of them is Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) strategy. Applying this strategy must be guided by proper instructions and procedures. In reading skill teaching and learning, this strategy is considered suitable to make students learn independently without letting them lost in the processes. This study aims to; 1) develop tasks instructions on reading comprehension skill to help students learn independently during outbreak era, 2) get students’ perspectives on how SRL works on them. The method is research and development cycle. The students’ perspectives are measured using Likert scale. The results showed that there need to be specific and clear instructions stating time, purposes of the tasks, giving students log to monitor their learning process, encouraging them to get help from lecturers or peers, and encouraging themselves to evaluate the process to find proper strategy for them.
This study aims to analyze the presented attitude based on the choice of words in an editorial published by The Guardian on November 5th, 2020 entitled “The Guardian View on the New Lockdown: Fewer Promises, Better Performance Needed”. One of the most relevant discourses to be analyzed is editorial section of newspaper that is considered as the purest part of mass media reflected ideology, or in this case, political stance. This is a qualitative study using the method of Systemic Functional Language framework with the specification of interpersonal meaning especially appraisal analysis with 22 appraising items taken from the editorial as the sources of data. The findings show that The Guardian is more likely not standing on the same side as the government by giving more negative attitude than the positive ones in terms of affects, judgment, and appreciation. Getting involved in attitude analysis as a part of SFL is considered important in ELT process to help students use language appropriately started from small unit like word.
This study focuses on improving students’ abilities in learning English with the support of Pictorial Metaplan as a teaching aid. The use of this Metaplan aims to improve speaking skills in formal and non-formal contexts. This pictorial Metaplan is a realia in the form of an illustrated carpet with a theme Getting Direction. Pictorial Metaplan focuses on the topic Getting Direction and applied directly to 15 students in the 8th grade of junior high school. The implementation of the use of the Pictorial Metaplan begins with distributing questionnaires and implementing Pre- Test and Post-Test, then direct implementation of using Pictorial Metaplan combined with Total Physical Response (TPR) method. The treatment for students was carried out by dividing two class groups, the control group, and the experimental group. The control group used conventional methods, without using learning aids, while the second group used the Pictorial Metaplan as a teaching aid. Based on the results of Pre-Test and Post-Test show an increase in the results of the values before and after implementing the Pictorial Metaplan. Thus it can be concluded that learning in the experimental group using Pictorial Metaplan is more effective than learning using conventional methods.

Some protocols published by WHO during this outbreak are to keep safe distance with minimum 1 meter, wear face masks especially in public places. Other health protocols such as wash hands using soap or hand sanitizer or have shower after being at home from work or other places are also being campaigned by government. However, most information provided used difficult language and hard to understand by children. This study therefore attempts to combine all of those backgrounds by creating a digital game related to Covid-19 which hopefully will provide positive contribution during this hard time. Furthermore, this game attempts to cover the right for children to access online gaming while keep educating them and protecting them from negative influences. This research employed Doppler Interactive Game Design Life Cycle as proposed by Joshua McGracth which basically consists of 6 iterative phases (Ramadan & Widyani, 2013), but here stopped at the testing process. Software used to develop this game were Adobe Flash and Adobe Premiere. The development if this game is also assessed appropriate by parents and English teachers in terms of the layout, the language or terms appropriateness, and the effectiveness.

This study addresses the gaps shown by researches related to importance of reading strategies to create the generation of independent university students that can be started by implementing self-regulated learning strategy with its 3 phases guided with proper instructions from lecturer so students are kept working on track while building their reading comprehension skill. Related to the SRL phases, it is important to get students’ perception on the strategy so lecturer can decide which phase needs more attention. The objectives of this study are; to observe students’ perception on each phase of self-regulated learning strategy and which phase of self-regulated learning strategy is the easiest to follow by students. It is a qualitative research with closed-questions questionnaire distributed to students after applying the self-regulated learning phases on reading comprehension activity. 15 of 20 students agreed that time-allotment helps them to finish the tasks on time in Forethought and Planning phase. 12 students disagreed that writing the journal regularly in Monitoring phase could help them choose which strategy worked best for them. The first half could not decide whether they can get their strengths and weaknesses by evaluating their performance in Reflection phase and the other half agreed on the statement. 20 students agreed that the Forethought and Planning phase was easy to follow. 15 students disagreed that Performance Monitoring was easy to follow. 13 students strongly disagreed that this phase was easy. The Forethought and Planning Phase of SRL was the easiest to follow.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
