BACKGROUND: Farmers pesticide management practices are critical to restoring their health following exposure to pesticides. Pesticide safety management is poorly understood by the majority of farmers. If too many dangerous disinfectants are utilized, human health will be compromised. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prevalence of health symptoms and their association with blood cholinesterase levels among chili farmers in Sakon Nakhon Province. METHODS: A cross-sectional analytic study of 141 chili farmers was conducted. A health volunteer/research assistant collected data using a self-report questionnaire. A six-part questionnaire was provided. All subjects provided blood samples to be tested for acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition by a medical technician in the laboratory. The Faculty of Medicine at Ramathibodi Hospital analysis report using a standard test kit for acetylcholinesterase (erythrocyte). Multivariate logistic regression models were used to predict the link between blood cholinesterase levels and health symptoms among chili farmers. RESULTS: Farmers blood levels of the enzyme cholinesterase were at risk in 94 people (risk group) 66.7% and normal in 47 people 33.3% (normal group). A study discovered the prevalence of health symptoms and blood cholinesterase levels among chili farmers included nervous system of 53.2%, muscular system of 37.6%, respiratory system of 34.8%, skin system of 9.9% and gastrointestinal system of 1.4%. g).In addition, logistic regression models revealed a strong association between blood cholinesterase levels and health symptoms after adjustment. The cholinesterase levels at risk (<1.30 U/g) were at increased risk of developing health conditions in nervous system 2.2 times (AOR = 2.29; 95% CI = 1.10-4.76, p-value = 0.02),muscular system 3.5 times (AOR = 3.51; 95% CI = 1.49-8.27, p-value = 0.004), respiratory system 2.2 times (AOR = 2.28; 95% CI = 1.01-5.14, p-value = 0.04) and integumentary system 7.8 times (AOR = 7.87; 95% CI = 1.00-62.13. p-value = 0.05) of chili farmers with blood cholinesterase level normal level (greater than or equal to;1.30 U/g). CONCLUSION: In this study, cholinesterase levels at risk (<1.30 U/g) were at risk of developing health conditions. Therefore, advocating for improved personal protection equipment and educating farmers about pesticide impact practices may also contribute to the reduction in chemical exposure.
