J. K. Rowling has written seven novels in the Harry Potter series. This fiction series has also inspired the educationists and academicians and it has been introduced in different western colleges as part of their syllabi. Warner Brothers made the films based on all the novels of Harry Potter series. Harry Potter World, the studio where these movies were made, is a tourist spot in London and thousands of fans from all over the world visit it every week. The present study explores teaching of Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone in the light of Barthes Narrative Codes with emphasis on hermeneutic codes and their roles in the building blocks of narrative structure of the novel. The result of the study shows the extensive use of enigma and delays in the series to make it captivating and interesting for the readers.
This study aims at analyzing Pakistani electronic media advertisements discourse to investigate the linguistic techniques of consumer product companies to reach more customers and sell more products. The research study focuses on the characteristic features of the advertising discourse which are intended to inculcating desirability and fostering new needs in the viewers/consumers. The data for the research consists of 12 advertisements aired on Pakistani TV channels. Linguistic analysis of the research study reveals that advertisements serve the primary function of enabling the consumer products companies to win the largest market share. Creative and innovative use of linguistic and extra linguistic features make advertising discourse powerful, potent and persuasive enough to promote the consumer culture.

In Pakistan English is taught as a compulsory subject in private as well as public schools form primary till university level. Resulting in the different outcomes by different socioeconomic status student. The current study attempts to study the correlation between socio-economic status and their achievement in the subject of English using survey method. The data was collected through simple random sampling technique. Data was collected 162 students through questionnaire. The descriptive and Pearson correlation were used for data analysis. The results revealed that the students whose parents having managerial category had a high correlation with all the four (sentence, grammar, vocabulary and spelling) skills of English learning. Whereas, students from the unskilled and semiskilled families resulted in a low achievement in English.
