The development of floating offshore wind energy is of vital importance for taking advantage of the large wind resource available in deep water areas. Regarding the design of wind turbines for floating applications, there is a tendency towards solutions with greater power per platform. This way the installation and grid connection costs, among others, can be reduced. Most of the existing designs seek to increase installed power by designing larger wind turbines. Besides, there are other prototypes of floating platforms that seek to increase power through solutions with more than one wind turbine on the same floating platform. However, standard state-of-the-art design tools are mostly designed to evaluate single-rotor wind turbines, and do not allow coupled simulation including phenomena such as the aerodynamic interaction between nearby wind turbines.
