Direct Synthesis of Aryl Substituted Pyrroles from Calcium Carbide: An Underestimated Chemical Feedstock. -Aryl pyrroles [(III) and (VIII)] are synthesized by title reaction starting from oximes [(I) or (VII), resp.] or through a one-pot procedure starting from corresponding ketones. Pyrrole (IIIf) is proved to be an excellent building block for the near-infrared fluorescent dye BODIPY (VI). The benefits of the methodology are the use of inexpensive and less hazardous calcium carbide and organic catalyst rather than acetylene and metal catalysts as well as cost-efficiency. -(KAEWCHANGWAT, N.; SUKATO, R.; VCHIRAWONGKWIN, V.; VILAIVAN, T.; SUKWATTANASINITT, M.; WACHARASINDHU*, S.; Green Chem. 17 (2015) 1, 460-465, http://dx.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
