The world is still reeling from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many lost their jobs. It was during this pandemic that people payed more attention to freelancing. However, even before the pandemic, this phenomenon was already gaining ground in the Philippines. The purpose of this paper is to explore Filipino professionals' lived experiences as they transition from the corporate world into a work from home job as online freelancers. This study used a qualitative research design using the phenomenological approach. Eleven participants willingly responded to the key informant interviews (KII). They were professionals who left their previous corporate job to work from home as online freelancers. Results revealed that the challenges they encountered were distractions at home and lack of recognition. The identified themes for the advantages were freedom, more time with the family, and flexibility. Based on the study's findings, it appeared that the benefits of freelance work outweigh the challenges. Freelancing creates alternative employment opportunities for Filipinos, both professionals or not. The implication of the study points to the need for education or information dissemination so that those who need jobs or want to transition from the corporate world can venture into freelancing, especially during a pandemic.
Mathematics is an interesting but a very challenging subject. Several studies reported different factors which lead to students’ poor performance in this subject. This study aimed to determine the influence of attitude and self-efficacy towards academic performance in Mathematics for Grade 8 students. It employed causal correlational research design. The findings revealed that the level of academic performance of the students was satisfactory. In terms of the level of attitude towards Mathematics subject, it is either positive or negative. As to the students’ self-efficacy, it is neither high nor low. No significant difference was found on the level of attitude and self-efficacy when grouped according to gender. It was also discovered that only attitude towards Mathematics manifested significant influence to academic performance. Students who have shown positive attitude towards the subject tend to perform well. Hence, performance in Mathematics can be improved by developing a positive attitude towards the subject. Parents, teachers and other stakeholders have the responsibility of helping the students in this aspect. -Using qualitative and quantitative methods, this study was designed to establish a model of the Catholicity of Catholic Basic schools in Davao Provinces, Philippines. The outputs of focus group discussions were analysed and used to construct the framework of the study and the basis for the survey instrument. The data gathered were subjected to Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) which produced four factors on Catholicity and seven factors for External Factors. The identified factors were loaded into the proposed model and analyzed using Structural Equation Model (SEM). The findings revealed a significant influence of the External Factors to Catholicity affirming the study's theoretical foundation. All seven observed variables showed positive contribution to External Factors(Latent Variable). Moreover, the findings showed significant contributions of the four observed variables to Catholicity (Latent Variable). Thus, the model measures Catholicity looking at the four observed variables and is further influenced by External Factors measured in terms of the seven observed variables. Based on the SEM findings which were supported by related literature and studies, the model of the Catholicity of Catholic Basic Education Schools in Davao Provinces will help schools remain faithful to their identity and mission as Catholic institutions.
Unemployment is global phenomenon even among advanced countries. The phenomenon of people working from home is gaining interest for many people, especially those still looking for jobs. The main purpose of this study was to explore on the work experiences of people working from home or the virtual professionals. This study employed a qualitative research design using phenomenological tradition. Twelve participants from different parts of the Philippines willingly responded to the Key Informant Interviews (KII). In terms of how the participants described their life, including the advantages, the findings revealed the following themes: Freedom, Flexibility, Family Time, Learning Experience, Convenience and Financial Advantage. As to the challenges they experienced, Internet Interruption, Distractions, and Less Social Life were the three major themes that came out. For their suggestions to those still looking for jobs, three themes emerged: Online Work, Confidence and Skills Development. The participants were happy with their work, giving the fact that they have more time with their family and enjoy other benefits. The findings of the study were sources of inspiration for those who are still jobless, for parents who want to be with their kids, but still earn a living, and even for people with disabilities (PWD). Indeed, without much government intervention and investment, the virtual professionals are finding jobs and are paving the way for combating unemployment. The implication of the study is for government and other agencies to understand this new phenomenon and to create mechanisms to support and promote it.
Mindanao is rich in culture and its natural resources, but little is known about it. Providing available resources online is one way of learning about this beautiful island. This study was undertaken to identify the available Mindanao resources and to make an annotation of the collected local resources through the use of Librarika. Furthermore, the bibliographic information of the Mindanao resources becomes accessible and retrievable, thus, making the list of an online annotated bibliography available in the different libraries in Mindanao. This project study aimed to design an E-Solution for Mindanao resources online annotated bibliography. Using quantitative and qualitative descriptive design, test and evaluation of the functionality and aesthetic design of the “E-Solution for Mindanao Resources: An Online Annotated Bibliography” was developed. E-Solution for Mindanao resources project helps the users to easily access the availability of online annotated bibliography of Mindanao resources because of its eight functional tabs namely; home, catalog, search catalog, database A-Z, top collections, new collections, my account and ask a librarian. Results showed that E-Solution for Mindanao Resources: An Online Annotated Bibliography is functional and competitive in its aesthetic design. It is recommended that this E-Solution for Mindanao resources project be visible and accessible online and be continually updated by the researcher regarding developments in Mindanao resources and annotated bibliography. KEYWORDS: Mindanao Resources, Online Annotated Bibliography, Librarika, E-Solution for Mindanao resources
