Under the influence of the framework that defines the Resource Based View, the purpose of this paper is to examine the contribution of the strategic resources (intellectual capital) that create value for the firm. More specifically, we assess the effect of intellectual capital on operating, financial and stock market performance of the firms listed in the personal goods sector of Pakistan Stock Bourse, for the period of 2005 to 2014. The notion of intellectual capital is measured by intellectual capital efficiency, and the “value added intellectual coefficient” method proposed by Pulic (1998), which comprises of capital employed efficiency, human capital efficiency, and structural capital efficiency. The results depict that intellectual capital has a significant, positive effect on operating and financial performance of the firms, while capital employed resources have an insignificant, and mixed effect on operating and financial performance of the firms. This means that the more the firms will accumulate intellectual capital resources, the higher will be their operating and financial performance. Capital employed resources have a significant, positive effect on stock market performance of the firm, and intellectual capital also affects stock market performance, but this relationship is insignificant in nature. The accumulated effect of all the resources (physical & intellectual) shows a positive relationship with the performing areas of the firm in the sector.
In developing nations, environmental policies have not given nearly enough consideration to the role that environmentally friendly innovation plays. Green innovation and long-term financial performance are extremely dependent on one another. Despite the fact that numerous studies have investigated the impact that a variety of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities have had on environmental sustainability, relatively few have investigated the implications of green innovation strategies and sustainability. From the mid-2021 through to mid-2022, information was gathered from 184 businesses listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) across 12 different industries. Estimates of the results were obtained by the use of structural equation modeling using partial least squares (PLS-SEM). The outcomes of the study indicated that all parts of CSR were positively significant in the process of fostering environmentally sustainable growth, with the exception of one aspect of CSR that was directed toward customers. Additionally, sustainable development contributes to the mediation impact that green innovation has, making this effect even more powerful. The data show that CSR activities have an exceptional impact on financial performance (FP) in all aspects other than one, and that green innovation (GI) also has a high-quality impact on FP, which demonstrates the significance of CSR practices in enhancing sustainable environment.
This study empirically investigates the moderating effect of board activeness on the relationship between the structure of corporate ownership and firm performance. The objective was evaluated using the hierarchal panel regressions with data from non-financial companies of the Pakistan Stock Exchange from 2009 to 2018, operationalizing the ownership structure as state ownership, associated companies, foreign ownership, ownership concentration, institutional ownership, and family ownership, and firm performance as operating performance, financial performance, and stock market performance. The findings of the study revealed that operating, financial, and stock market performance were favorably influenced by the ownership stakes of the state, associated concerns, institutions, and foreigners. Family interests proved to be diverse for the firm performance. The isolated effect of the board consistently uplifted the firm productivity, but its interactional impact with all the ownership stakeholders postulated differential outcomes for internal and external performance. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers and investors to make optimal strategies to manage ownership interests and enhance value.
PurposeThe primary goal of this study is to look at the behavioral factors that influence an individual's decision to invest in the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).Design/methodology/approachExisting behavioral finance theories serve as a foundation for hypotheses. Further hypotheses were investigated by disseminating questionnaire results from a number of individual Pakistani investors. Brokerage and asset management fund managers were also questioned in semi-structured interviews. The obtained data were analyzed using statistical package for the social sciences, and latent variables were identified using the structural equation model (SEM) and an asset management operating system (AMOS).FindingsIndividual investor investment decisions in the PSX are influenced by five behavioral factors: herding, market, prospect, overconfidence and gambler fallacy and anchoring-ability bias. The majority of the variables have a modest impact; however, the market component has a significant impact. Only three behavioral elements, herding, prospect and heuristic, are found to influence investment performance among the behavioral factors stated above. Heuristic habits have been discovered to have the greatest positive impact on investment performance.Practical implicationsThis study is one of the few in Pakistan that looked at the factors that influence stock investment decisions using behavioral finance. Prior research has only considered the effects of a restricted number of behavioral characteristics on Pakistani individual investors; however, this study seeks to use a whole collection of behavioral factors to examine their impacts on Pakistani individual investors.Research limitationsThe focus of the study remains on the individual investor, whereas the impact of institutional investors on investment behavior could bring different outcomes.Originality/valueThis is among the few studies that investigated the impact of cognitive factors on investment decisions in the context of Pakistan and will help policy makers, opinion makers and individuals.
Trade credit management is considered very important in the field of finance for most of the firms. This study throws light on the management of current assets and current liabilities in relation to the trade credit. Trade credit has been a growing source of finance of industrial sector in Pakistan. In this study, the main aim is to analyze the role of trade credit in upgradation of cement sector. To achieve this object, data was taken from the annual financial reports of 17 firms listed cement sector in Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). The analyses have been carried out by using the data of 8 years, starting from year 2007 to 2014. Apparently not much work has been done to find out the success or failure of the business units selling cement on credit terms under market conditions prevailing in Pakistan. It was interesting to study the relation of trade credit and sales growth with respect to a developing nation like Pakistan. Panel data (fixed effect) model was used for the estimation of results decided on the basis of Hausman test. In addition to use of trade credit as independent variable, control variables (age, size and lagged sales growth) were also added in the model. Findings of the study show that trade credit has very significant positive affect on sales growth of the firms proclaiming the recommendation for the use of trade credit to enhance the revenues.
