Introdução: O período gravídico-puerperal é considerado como uma importante fase na vida da mulher, no entanto no puerpério podem ocorrer complicações definidas como infecção proveniente do sistema genital interno ou externo, associadas ou não ao sistema geniturinário ou via de parto que pode acarretar morbimortalidade materna. Objetivos: Identificar quais critérios clínicos são utilizados pelo enfermeiro na caracterização das infecções puerperais na estratégia de saúde da família. Métodos: Estudo bibliográfico, descritivo, tipo revisão integrativa da literatura. Utilizou-se a bases de dados em enfermagem (BDENF), Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO) e Literatura latino-americano e do Caribe de informação em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), entre agosto e outubro de 2020 e procedeu-se a categorização dos estudos incluídos na revisão, a interpretação dos resultados e a apresentação da revisão com síntese do conhecimento produzido. Resultados: Foram analisados 16 estudos. Evidenciou-se que na consulta puerperal, os enfermeiros têm como foco o recém-nascido e que as mulheres, quando bem orientadas, reduzem o risco de complicações da infecção puerperal. Conclusão: O enfermeiro, em sua maioria, não utiliza os protocolos disponibilizados pelo Ministério da Saúde nem o Processo de Enfermagem nas consultas do puerpério. A consulta puerperal é realizada de forma mecânica, sem avaliação do exame físico na puérpera, tendo como foco a assistência em grande parte ao neonato.
