Com notável maior utilização e acesso à computação em nuvem, realidade virtual e aumentada, tecnologias móveis e adoção de mídias sociais; o conceito de inteligência tem sido mais explorado, expandindo-se de objetos para cenários mais amplos como cidades; tudo isso, através da integração da tecnologia da comunicação e informação com a infra-estrutura física. Os Destinos Turísticos Inteligentes (DTI) são localidades que utilizam a base de cidades inteligentes para apoiar a mobilidade, hospedagem, alimentação e entretenimento, com o objetivo de proporcionar uma melhor experiência aos turistas. Nesse contexto, o principal objetivo deste artigo é revisar sistematicamente as publicações científicas brasileiras, buscando identificar como tem sido estudada a relação entre os DTIs e a experiência do turista. Dentro da metodologia escolhida, foi feita uma adaptação do modelo de Costa e Zoltowski (2014). A lista de periódicos científicos brasileiros desenvolvida pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Turismo da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) foi considerada como critério de escolha da base de dados. Após a seleção dos artigos, os dados foram extraídos usando uma planilha do Google para construir o corpus de análise para posterior processamento no software Iramuteq. Com base nos dados obtidos, a análise dos resultados mostrou que, embora haja uma nítida evolução das pesquisas em DTI e experiência do turista, os destinos estudados ainda estão em processo de se tornar um DTI, com fatores favoráveis e elementos em desenvolvimento para alcançar o nível de inteligência do destino. Com os achados da pesquisa, foi feita uma análise baseada em algumas dimensões, tais como Dimensão de Experiência, Dimensão de Gestão e Desenvolvimento e Dimensão Metodológica, para entender como estão indo os estudos dessas temáticas.
