Larasati RF, Suadi, Setyobudi E. 2018. Short Communication: Population dynamics of double-spined rock lobster (Panulirus penicillatus Olivier, 1791) in Southern Coast of Yogyakarta. Biodiversitas 19: 337-342. The southern coast of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, near to the Indian Ocean borders is a preferable habitat for lobster. Double-spined rock lobster (Panulirus penicillatus) is one of the prevalent species caught by fishermen. However the increased number of capture activities had an effect on the sustainability of global lobster fisheries. In order to sustain these fisheries resource, the preservation management of lobster should include wild stock assessments. Currently, the effect of fishing pressures on populations of P. penicillatus is limited. The objective of this research was to identify several factors affecting lobster population in terms of growth (carapace length (CL) and mass), recruitment, mortality rates, and exploitation rates in this species. Results showed that double-spined rock lobster had a longer size (CL) (45.2-55.1 mm) than that of females (55.2 mm-65.1 mm). While the growth rate (K) of males lobster is 0.85 year-¹ and its CL reached an asymptotic point at 125 mm (12 years old). Growth rate of females double-spined rock lobster was 0.55 year-¹ and its CL reached an asymptotic point at 125.5 mm (15 years old). The total estimation of mortality rates of double-spined rock lobster was 2.46, wherein 2.56 year-¹ for males and females, respectively. The estimated values of M were 1.08, 0.81 year-¹ for males and females, respectively while the respective values of F were 1.38 year-¹ and 1.75 year-¹ for males and females. The exploitation rate of males was 0.56 and females was 0.68. It has exceeded the optimal level (0.5) and reached overfishing value. Based on these results, it suggest that the time management of fishing activities such as by several approaches including the restricted time of fishing activity in spawning and recruitment season, the management of catching effort by the development of environment-friendly fishing gear, and the development of the lobster hatchery to reproduce and maintain their population naturally.
Regulation of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia Number 71/PERMEN.KP/2016 concerning Fishing Paths and Placement of Fishing Equipment in the Fisheries Management Area of the Republic of Indonesia in article 22 paragraph (1) that the placement of fishing gear and fishing aids in WPP RI is adjusted to the nature of fishing gear. Referring to these regulations, this research was conducted to examine the main factors causing the ignorance of the purse seine fishing zone for fishermen in Panyula Village, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. This research was conducted from November 2016 to March 2017 in Panyula Village, which is the fishing base area of purse seine fishermen and the waters of Bone Bay. This study uses a combination of survey and case study methods. This study uses two types, namely primary data and secondary data. The analysis of the factors causing the non-conformance was analyzed descriptively, namely comparing the average productivity of ring seines that catch in the designated zone and ring seines that catch in zones that are not according to their designation according to Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 71 of 2016. After the study, the main cause of non-compliance with the Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 71 of 2016 is the high productivity of ring trawl units that carry out fishing on non-designated fishing lanes compared to ring trawl units that catch on correct fishing routes.
To maintain sustainable fisheries, albacore tuna is one of the commercial fish species whose management is regulated globally by the Regional Fisheries Management Organizations. Generally, sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a (SSC) are used to determine fish suitability based on the catch data. In this research, we attempt to identify optimal habitats for albacore tuna in the southeastern Indian Ocean by analyzing in situ data based on onboard observers on tuna long line vessels from 2006-2019 and optimum interpolation sea surface temperature from NOAA-Advanced Very High-Resolution Radiometer and sea surface chlorophyll-a from Aqua MODIS satellites. The albacore tuna's habitat suitability index was examined using the Generalized Additive Model. The results suggested that albacore tuna inhabited waters with an SST range of 15-26 °C and SSC concentration of 0.075-0.125 mg/m 3 . In the Indian Ocean, most albacore tunas were captured at higher latitudes of 20°-30° S.INDEX TERMS albacore tuna, chlorophyll-a, sea surface temperature, habitat suitability, Indian Ocean
