RESUMOO câncer devido a sua agressividade é desafiador não só para o paciente, mas também para os familiares e cuidadores. O cuidador é definido como uma pessoa que cuida de pacientes que estão numa fase difícil da vida, os quais podem manifestar sintomas físicos e psicológicos diante do cuidado com o paciente em sofrimento. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar o nível de estresse dos cuidadores de pacientes com câncer em fase terminal. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, transversal, com abordagem quantitativa realizado nos domicílios dos pacientes acompanhados pela estratégia saúde da família do município de Morada Nova -CE no período de setembro a outubro de 2017. A população do estudo foi composta por 40 cuidadores de pacientes com câncer em fase terminal. A coleta de dados ocorreu por meio de uma entrevista na qual foi utilizado um formulário contendo dados sociodemográficos e o Teste de Lipp -Inventário de Sintomas de Stress para Adultos de Lipp. A pesquisa respeitou a resolução nº 466/2012 do Conselho Nacional de Saúde sendo aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em pesquisa sob parecer 2.371.540. Quanto aos níveis de estresse experimentado, foi constatado que a maioria estavam na fase de alarme (65%) nas últimas 24 horas apresentando insônia/dificuldade de dormir como a principal queixa. Na última semana a maioria encontrava-se na fase de exaustão (62,50%) sendo a sensibilidade emotiva excessiva o sintoma mais prevalente. No último mês a prevalência foi de cuidadores na fase de exaustão (70%), sendo mais citado a insônia e o pensamento constante. Recomenda-se implementação de ações e estratégias dos profissionais de saúde que sejam capazes de minimizar os fatores de estresse e promover qualidade de vida aos cuidadores. DESCRITORES:Neoplasias.
