Electronic books or Ebooks are becoming more and more common in colleges. In this research, the student book buying patterns are studied at a public engineering institution. Ebooks are becoming more and more common. Based on a research survey, we analyze whether students prefer ebooks or print editions. Comparisons are done across disciplines, level of the student (freshman to graduate), whether the student owns a laptop / desktop / tablet, student work commitments, financial needs, and age; among other factors. Some professors give the option of using the ebooks, while others do not. Students may or may not know about the availability of ebooks for their courses and this may impact their decision to choose either option. Students may make decisions to purchase ebooks or print edition based on cost, readability, availability, and ability to take notes, impact on the environment, ease of use, logistics and the level of the usage of the book in a given course. Students also take into account the resale value of the book at the end of the semester. These and other factors that lead to the student choice are studied. The goal of this study is to understand student book buying behaviors. Authors hope that both students and faculty members can be made aware of the various text book options available so they can make the best choices given the individual circumstances.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a rare cause of liver abscess, even in country like India where it is a very common infection. Moreover, tubercular liver abscess (TLA) is the most unusual pattern of hepatic tuberculosis. We report an unusual case of liver abscess in an immune-competent patient presenting only with weight loss. On investigation, initially it appeared pyogenic, but later turn out to be a mixed infection with tuberculosis. He responded well to antibiotic and antitubercular drugs. A mixed pyogenic and TLA is very uncommon. We conclude that, tuberculosis should be suspected in liver abscess, especially in the absence of typical features and failure to respond to antibiotics.
The occurrence of intractable glaucoma after intravitreal triamcinolone in central retinal vein occlusion is a serious concern and warrants caution in the use of this modality for these patients.
Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic, inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology which mainly involves synovial joints. However, the corresponding systemic inflammation may result in disorders of multiple other organ systems. Several organs and organ systems are potentially involved in RA, particularly in severe diseases. The organs most involved are the lung, heart, eyes, and nervous system. Extra-articular manifestations of RA may develop even before the onset of arthritis. Emerging epidemiological evidence shows that cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounts for near about 50% of RAassociated death. Epicardial fat thickness (EFT) has recently emerged as a new marker of cardiometabolic risk. Although Epicardial fat (EF) is needed for heart muscle function, given its intrinsic inflammatory status, EFT displays the potential to serve as a therapeutic target in patients with RA.Objectives: To evaluate EFT using echocardiography in RA patients compared to age and sex-matched control and to find the factors associated with EFT in RA patients.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
