Palmar dermatoglyphics and flexion creases of 108 male and 65 female patients diagnosed as having diabetes mellitus have been analysed. The control population consists of 536 males and 234 females from the same population. Palmar flexion creases were analysed according to the method suggested by Bali and Chaube ('71). The flexion creases of diabetic patients and the control population are significantly different. The differences between main line formulae in diabetes and controls are significant among males. The differences between C-line types of patients and controls are significant among both sexes. Axial triradii are significant among female patients and controls. The patterns in the interdigital areas IV and II are significantly lower among male and female patients respectively from their controls.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether there was a correlation between the presence or absence of nutrient canals in intraoral periapical radiographs (IOPAR) and the two most common systemic diseases, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. The study included 150 patients selected due to the inclusion criteria detailed in the methods section. The results revealed that although there was no statistically significant correlation between the presence of nutrient canals and the two systemic diseases studied, their presence on IOPARs should raise the suspicion and warrant further investigation.
Reactive lesions of the gingiva are common and tend to be non-neoplastic growths. They have recurrence rates of 5-20% after excision depending on the diagnosis, the completeness of surgical removal and the presence or absence of local irritating factors. It is necessary to obtain histological diagnoses for the lesions as the clinical appearances can be similar among various lesions but the recurrence rates are different. Pyogenic granuloma (PG), also known as granuloma pyogenicum, represents an excessive tissue reaction to some known stimulus or injury. It is a relatively common soft tissue tumor of skin and mucous membranes and can regress if the causative factor is removed otherwise conservative surgery or laser excision is recommended. This paper presents a case report along with the treatment and a review of the literature.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
