The potential of microbial degradation of PCB in contaminated actual site soil was investigated by incubation in percolation columns for 10 months. The addition of traces of mineral salts and nutrients resulted in a significant increase of the degradation of PCB congeners up to 5 Cl-atoms caused by the naturally occurring bacteria in the soil matrix. If only tap water was recycled the degree of PCB degradation was negligible.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
