Theoretical and practical aspects of interdisciplinary teamworkThe longitudinal research performed at Kaunas University of Medicine (since 2010 -Lithuanian University of Health Sciences) and Vytautas Magnus University was aimed at investigating educational possibilities and preconditions for the development of interdisciplinary (intercultural) collaboration competence for students of Medicine and Social work education programs.During the first stage of the study, we stated that new paradigms of learning and empowerment require competences empowering for functioning in an interdisciplinary (intercultural) team, as well as the creation of the environment where individuals would learn to communicate (Brunevičiūtė, Večkienė 2003;Brunevičiūtė et al. 2004). We highlighted that from the perspectives of historical and social transformation, the traditional concept of a profession -the one that emphasizes the distinction of the profession -predominates in the field of biomedicine, while social sciences are characterized by intensive transformations requiring a substantial revision of the concepts of social professions. The main goal of the research was to investigate educational possibilities and preconditions for the development of the education of professional intercultural communication for students in the education programs of medicine and social work. Previous stages of the study revealed the peculiarities of intercultural/interdisciplinary teamwork, and educational premises for professional education of the team members. The fourth stage of the study is focused on the analysis of the practical activity of the interdisciplinary (intercultural) team, striving to improve health specialists' and social workers' interdisciplinary collaboration competence.
Foreign languages are becoming an essential prerequisite for a successful carrier among all professions including public health professionals in many countries. The expanding role of English as a mode of communication allows for university graduates to project and to seek their career in English-speaking countries. The present study was carried out in the framework of EU Leonardo da Vinci project “Specialist English as a foreign language for European public health.” The study aimed to get a deeper insight how the English language is perceived as a foreign language, by Polish and Lithuanian public health students, what is level of their language competence, which level of English proficiency they expect to use in future.Material and methods. A total of 246 respondents completed the special questionnaires in autumn semester in 2005. A questionnaire form was developed by the international project team. For evaluation of English competences, the Language Passport (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of Council of Europe) was applied. Results. Current self-rated proficiency of the English language was at the same level for Lithuanian (3.47±1.14) and Polish (3.31±0.83) respondents (P>0.05). Majority of respondents (88.6% of Lithuanian and 87.8% of Polish) reported using the English language for their current studies. Respondents reported a significant increase in necessity for higher level of English proficiency in future: mean scores provided by respondents changed from B1 level to B2 level. Respondents gave priority to less formal and practice-based interactive English teaching methods (going abroad, contacts with native speakers) in comparison with theory-oriented methods of learning (self-studying, Internet courses). Conclusions. Similar levels of English language in all five areas of language skills were established in Polish and Lithuanian university students. Respondents gave more priorities to less formal and practice-based interactive English teaching methods (going abroad, contacts with native speakers) in comparison with theory-oriented or classroom-based methods of learning (self-studying, Internet courses). Survey showed a growing interest of students in improving English language in the future in Poland and Lithuania.
Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas, Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universitetas AnotacijaStraipsnyje pristatomi Vytauto Didžiojo ir Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universitetų dėstytojų tęstinių tyrimų rezultatai, pagrindžiama socialinių darbuotojų ir kitų profesionalų, dirbančių pagalbos žmo-gui srityje, bendradarbiavimo būtinybė, kuriant asmenį palaikančią socialinę aplinką, kuri straipsnyje suprantama kaip vienijanti aplinka (ang. unity environment). Teoriniai ir empiriniai socialinių darbuotojų, sveikatos ir ugdymo specialistų bendradarbiavimo aspektai analizuojami, pabrėžiant konceptualią asmens įgalinimo nuostatą ir jos reikšmingumą senėjančioje, transformacijas išgyve-nančioje visuomenėje. Remiantis tyrimų rezultatų interpretacija, aptariama tarpdisciplininio bendradarbiavimo raiška praktikoje, aktualizuojami profesionalų rengimo ir tęstinio mokymosi pokyčiai, pabrėžiant pasirengimą dirbti tarpdisciplininėje komandoje. Pirmoje straipsnio dalyje aptariamos socialinės įtampos, jų raiška socialinio darbo ir sveikatos priežiūros praktikoje, atskleidžiant iššū-kius žmogui -profesionalui ir klientui. Antroje dalyje išryškinama tarpdisciplininės komunikacijos, lemiančios įgalinančios vienijančios aplinkos kūrimą, svarba socialinių įtampų kontekste, aptariama paramą teikiančio bendradarbiavimo raiška praktinėje veikloje. Trečioje dalyje analizuojami edukacinių tarpdisciplininio bendradarbiavimo prielaidų ir galimybių paieškos atvejai: reflektuojami medicinos ir socialinio darbo studijų programų analizės rezultatai; pristatomi studijų programų organizavimo pokyčiai, aptariama naujovių raiška studijų programose ir praktikoje. Apibendrinant ir sisteminant straipsnyje pateikiamą informaciją išvadų ir diskusijos dalyje aktualizuojama konsultavimo funkcijos raiška formaliojo ir neformaliojo mokymosi procese. Konsultavimas akcentuojamas kaip esminis ugdymo kaitos veiksnys, mokymosi visą gyvenimą strategija, lemianti nuostatos "centre -besimokantysis" įgyvendinimą tęstinio mokymosi procese. Formaliose profesionalų rengimo studijose tai gali užtikrinti dėstytojo tutoriaus pozicija, įgalinanti studijavimo sistemiškumą; praktinėje veikloje -supervizorius, skatinantis reflektuoti profesinių santykių patirtį, taip tobulinant kompetenciją.
