Surface modification was carried out in AISI 304 using ammonia and scallop shell powder as the nitriding agent. Furthermore, the temperature variations used were 500°, 550° and 600°C within the durations of 3, 5, and 7 hours. The results showed that the highest point of specimen hardness reached 600°C at 7 hours (1246 VHN) with a nitrogen content of 15.35% and a nitride layer depth of 141.64 µm. In addition, this value was higher than other implant materials, namely AISI 316L (316 VHN), Ti6Al4V (435 VHN), CrCoMo (351 VHN) and human bone (129 VHN).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
