Among all communicable diseases, Hepatitis B is a highly contagious disease affecting the liver. It spreads through contact with infected blood, saliva, and other bodily fluids. Symptoms may not occur for a few days or longer after contracting the virus and unfortunately public has a lack of awareness about hepatitis B and its risk. 2 billion people have been infected (1 out of 3 people) by hepatitis B in the world. Out of this 240 million people are chronically infected and 10-30 million will become infected each year. Up to a million people die each year from hepatitis B and its complications such as liver cancer. Approximately 2 people die each minute from hepatitis B related complications. According to the study report, India has over 40 million HBV carriers and accounts for 15% of the entire pool of HBV carriers of the world. Thus the researchers wished to conduct a research study on awareness and influencing lifestyle modification factors regarding hepatitis among non-medical students in selected colleges at Bengaluru. A total of 60 non-medical students were selected were recruited randomly. A quasy experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design with a quantitative approach were used. A structured knowledge questionnaire and a checklist developed by the investigator were used to collect data. The study findings showed that 50 students (83.3%) had inadequate awareness, 10 students (16.7%) had moderate awareness and none of the study participants had an adequate level of awareness regarding hepatitis-B. and Out of 9 influencing lifestyle factors 14 (23.3%) students had two factors, 11 (18.3%) students had three factors, 10 (16.7%) had one factor, 8 (13.3%) students had four factors, 7 (11.7%) of them had none of the factors, 6 (10%) of the subjects had six factors, 4 (6.7%) of the subjects had five factors none of the subjects had more than six factors towards influencing lifestyle factors of hepatitis B.
Introduction: In recent years, liver disease has been responsible for about 2 million fatalities worldwide, with 1 million of such deaths resulting from cirrhosis complications and 1 million each from viral hepatitis and hepatocellular cancer. The National Institutes of Health estimates that alcohol use may be accountable for 10,000 to 24,000 deaths from cirrhosis per year. According to the most recent WHO data, 184,193 people in India died from liver disease in 2018, accounting for 3.0% of all fatalities. The issue of whether or not commercial car drivers are aware of liver cirrhosis brought on by alcoholism still exists because there is a shortage of awareness on the condition. Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the knowledge and attitude toward liver cirrhosis due to alcoholism. Methodology: A pre-experimental study with one group pre-test and post-test design was undertaken to conduct the study from 20 august to 30 October using a simple random sampling technique. The study involved 60 commercial vehicle drivers who completed a standardized knowledge assessment and an attitude scale. Pen and paper were used to collect the data, which was then exported for additional analysis into SPSS version 20.0. The descriptive statistics were presented with mean standard deviation, frequency and percentage. The data were analyzed using a paired t-test. The chi-square analysis was used to check the association. Results: The study revealed that 46 drivers (76.7%) had inadequate knowledge, 14 drivers (23.3%) had moderate knowledge whereas none of them had adequate level of knowledge towards liver cirrhosis. And regarding assessment of attitude, data findings showed that that 40 (66.7%) of the participant had unfavorable attitude, 20 (33.3%) of them had neutral favorable attitude whereas none of them had favorable attitude regarding cirrhosis ofliver. The paired t test was carried out and it was found out invariably significant at p<0.05 level in both knowledge and attitude level with demographic variables. Conclusion: Our data suggest thatcommercial auto drivers have significantly less knowledge regarding liver cirrhosis due to alcohol consumption and also, they are showing a poor attitude towards liver cirrhosis as a major problem. So, it is very important to make sure that the commercial drivers including auto drivers should know about the health hazards related to alcoholism and also to reduce road accidents and unwanted behaviors. Our findings will support the stakeholders, auto rikshaw union leaders, and government policymakers to make a significant decision to improve public knowledge related to alcohol-related health problems.
In the globe, under-five children experience on average 3.2 episodes of diarrhea every year and consequently, 1.87 million children will die from dehydration associated with diarrheal disease. And in developing countries, diarrheal disease among under-five children accounts for about 21% of all deaths. Therefore, under-five children are susceptible to diarrhea-related death if proper measures are not taken. In India up to two-third of total pediatric admissions are due to diarrheal disease and, up to 17% of all deaths in indoor pediatric patients are associated with dehydration-related diarrhea. Thus the researchers conducted research on knowledge, and attitude on the prevention of diarrhea among the mothers of under-five children in selected hospitals at, Bengaluru. A total of 75 mothers were recruited randomly. A Descriptive research design with cross–sectional approach was used in this study. Structured knowledge questionnaire and 5 point attitude rating scales developed by the investigator were used to collect data. The study findings showed that 40 mothers (53.3) had inadequate knowledge, 30 (40.0%) had moderate knowledge and only 5 (6.7%) had adequate knowledge about diarrhea and regarding attitude12 mothers (16%) expressed a moderate level of attitude, 63 (84%) had inadequate attitude and none of them had a high level of attitude towards prevention of diarrhea.
Background:Students personality development is a felt need in our newly built tertiary health care system. There is a definite and vital role of professionalism based on personality development programs, especially in their early adjustment, understanding of the medical stream, and more importantly helping them to grow more effectively in all spheres of life and to actualize their inherent potential. Objectives:This study was conducted to determine the knowledge aboutpersonality development among 1st – year graduate nursing students. Methods:A pre-experimental study with one group pre-test and post-test design was undertaken to conduct this study from 02.05.2016 to 12.07.2016 using a purposive sampling technique. A total of 60 1st year nursing students participated in the study through a structured knowledge questionnaire. Data was collected through pen and paper and exported to SPSS version 20.0 for further analysis. The descriptive statistics were presented with mean standard deviation, frequency, and percentage. The data were analyzed using a paired t-test. The chi-square analysis was used to check the association. Results:Results of the study revealed that in the pre-test level 45(75%) of the participants had inadequate knowledge, 15(25%) of them had moderate knowledge and none of the participants were having adequate knowledge. whereas after the intervention majority 49(81.7%) of the participants had adequate knowledge, 11(18.3%) of them had moderate knowledge and none of the study participants had inadequate knowledge regarding personality development. The paired t test was carried out and it was found significant at p<0.05 level in age and knowledge level (χ2=1.958, df=1). Furthermore, the association between gender and knowledge (χ2=4.107, df=1) and previous knowledge regarding personality development (χ2= 7.907, df=1) were also found to be statistically significant. Conclusion:Our data suggest that 1st year graduate nurses have significantly less knowledge regarding personality development. so, it is very important to make sure that the graduate nursing students must know about personality development as they are the backbone of healthcare system around the world.
