RESUMOSegundo Fama (1970) os mercados de capitais são fundamentais para o desenvolvimento econômico de um país por alocar os recursos disponíveis para investimento, função que ao ser desenvolvida fornece sinais importantes à formação dos preços dos títulos, que devem refletir as informações existentes no sistema econômico a qualquer tempo. De acordo com Hendriksen e Van Breda (1999), as demonstrações contábeis apresentam ao usuário externo as situações financeiras, patrimoniais e econômicas das organizações. Considerando a importância da informação para o desenvolvimento do mercado de capitais e também a relevância dos demonstrativos contábeis, esse trabalho propõe um estudo sobre a eficiência do mercado brasileiro e o impacto da divulgação das informações contábeis no preço das ações. Foi utilizada a técnica de Estudo de Eventos, sendo considerado como evento a data de divulgação das demonstrações contábeis trimestrais e anuais no período de 2007 a 2009 de 42 papéis de empresas listadas no Índice Bovespa (Ibovespa) consecutivamente no período analisado. Os resultados reforçaram a hipótese de eficiência em sua forma semi-forte, pois as demonstrações contábeis em sua maioria não afetaram significativamente os preços dos títulos, salvo no período de 2009 em que se observou efeito significativo, nos retornos acumulados (CAR) dos títulos após a publicação.

Considering the importance of the information for the development of the Capital Market and also, the relevance of financial statements, this paper proposes a study about the efficiency of the Brazilian Market and the impact of the disclosure of financial statements in the price of the stocks. effect was observed, in the cumulative returns of securities after the publication.
