Background. Obesity has several effects on the mechanics of the rib cage that may impair the exercise performance of obese individuals and therefore impact the assessment of surgical risk. This study aimed to establish a reference value for the 6-minute walk distance (6 MWD) in obese Brazilian men in the preoperative period of bariatric surgery that considers the effect of lung function. Methods. This was a cross-sectional study in which 104 obese men underwent the six-minute walk test (6 MWT) before bariatric surgery. They also underwent the spirometry test and respiratory muscle strength measurement before the 6 MWT. Results. The 6 MWD was correlated with age (r = −0.388, p = 0.0005 ), weight (r = −0.365, p = 0.0007 ), height (r = 0.285, p = 0.022 ), body mass index (BMI) (r = −0.543, p < 0.0001 ), forced vital capacity (FVC) (r = 0.472, p < 0.0001 ), peak expiratory flow (r = 0.253, p = 0.031 ), and maximal inspiratory pressure (r = 0.313, p = 0.017 ). In the stepwise forward regression analysis, BMI, FVC, and age were the only variables that independently predicted the 6 MWD and explained 40% of its variability. The reference equation proposed for obese Brazilian men is 6 MWD (m) = 570.5 − (3.984 × BMIkg/m2) + (1.093 × FVC%predicted) − (0.836 × ageyrs). Conclusion. In this sample of obese Brazilian men, lung function contributed to poor performance in the 6 MWT. In these individuals, BMI, FVC, and age were the variables that composed the reference equation for the 6 MWD. Thus, in several clinical settings, such as in the evaluation before bariatric surgery, pulmonary function data are important to determine the reference value for the 6 MWD.
Resumo O objetivo deste estudo é descrever os efeitos dos softwares de análise de dados qualitativos (Qualitative Data Analysis Software [QDAS]) na qualidade das pesquisas qualitativas, segundo a perspectiva de pesquisadores. O que motivou esta pesquisa foi a divergência de opiniões com relação aos efeitos dos QDAS na qualidade das pesquisas qualitativas. O aporte teórico foi construído com base nas literaturas de critérios de qualidade de pesquisas qualitativas, estratégias de promoção de qualidade e adoção de QDAS. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com dez pesquisadores com experiência de análise sem e com o uso QDAS. A técnica de análise utilizada foi a análise de conteúdo apoiada pelo uso do software ATLAS.ti®. Os resultados evidenciaram que o uso dos QDAS pode potencializar seis das sete estratégias de qualidade consideradas, com destaque para a melhoria da coerência do pesquisador. Os critérios de qualidade mais beneficiados pelo uso foram a confirmabilidade e a credibilidade. Como desvantagem do uso dos QDAS, emergiu a questão do distanciamento do pesquisador dos dados. Os resultados desta pesquisa contribuem para o enriquecimento da discussão sobre os efeitos dos QDAS nas pesquisas e fomentam o uso dos softwares. JEL Code: L86, C9, B41.
SUMMARY This study was carried out aiming to evaluate the biomass components of elephant grass cv. Roxo at seven growth ages, during rainy, transition and dry seasons. A completely randomized design was adopted with a split plot arrangement over time. The treatments consisted of seven growth ages (9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54 and 63) and three seasons (rainy, transition and dry). The variables green forage biomass, dead forage biomass, green stem biomass and green leaf blade biomass showed positive linear responses to age and had their magnitude influenced by the evaluated seasons. The live/dead material ratio showed a decreasing linear response as a function of age. The leaf blade/stem ratio showed a negative linear adjustment in the rainy season, reaching a critical value of 1.0 at 59 days, and it showed a quadratic adjustment in the transition season, with the maximum point at 27.53 days; however, this ratio was not influenced by age in the dry season, revealing an average value of 2.22 ± 0.27. The canopy height and leaf area index showed a positive linear response to age in the three seasons. Tiller population density showed quadratic behaviour for age, with maximum estimated values of 134 and 110 til. m-2 at 31.24 and 37.40 days in the rainy and dry seasons, respectively. Rainfall seasonality influences the magnitude of the daily increase of the distinct biomass components of Pennisetum purpureum cv. Roxo.
