A vida é uma balança de escolhas e oportunidades. A todo momento, somos colocados em situações nas quais precisamos escolher entre um ou outro caminho, nem sempre certos de que chegaremos a um lugar ao qual realmente pertencemos. Foi nessa incerteza com relação ao futuro que acabei, por escolha própria, especializando-me e, posteriormente, fazendo mestrado em Dentística. Mas, afinal, o que significa ser mestre nos dias de hoje? O que há de interessante em seguir a carreira acadêmica em um país tão cheio de dentistas, no qual, ainda por cima, o ensino e a pesquisa são tão subvalorizados? Não é de hoje que eu sinto enorme pressão para me dedicar e destacar na Odontologia. Desde a minha graduação, eu ouvia de alguns professores o quanto o mercado odontológico estava complicado e o quanto era importante praticar uma Odontologia baseada em evidências científicas para exercer a profissão de forma digna e ética ao lidar com a saúde de outras pessoas. Isso, sem dúvida, foi um fator chave para despertar meu desejo de estar sempre em busca de mais conhecimento na área, seja sobre os materiais, seja sobre as técnicas ou sobre o porquê de determinadas coisas funcionarem do jeito que dizem funcionar.
