Tendo em vista a ausência de informações acerca da qualidade da água consumida em escolas municipais de Divinópolis - MG, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo levantar dados, de natureza microbiológica e físico-química, de amostras de água coletadas em unidades de ensino da cidade a luz da Portaria 2.914/2011 do Ministério da Saúde (MS). Com a autorização da Secretaria Municipal de Educação (SEMED) as coletas foram realizadas nos meses de junho, julho e agosto de 2016, e os experimentos conduzidos no Laboratório de Microbiologia da Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais (UEMG) - Unidade Divinópolis MG e no Laboratório de Química de Proteínas da Universidade Federal de São João (UFSJ) - Campus Centro-Oeste (CCO). Foram assepticamente coletadas amostras em variados pontos de cada unidade escolar: caixa d’água, bebedouro e torneira da cozinha, seguindo manual prático de análise de água da FUNASA - 2013. Foram avaliados 8 parâmetros por ponto divididos em 3 microbiológicos e 5 físico-químicos. Para avaliação da presença de coliformes totais e termotolerantes foi adotada a metodologia do substrato cromogênico e empregada a técnica spread-plate para a contagem padrão de bactérias heterotróficas totais. Em relação aos parâmetros físico-químicos foram analisados cloro residual livre, pH, temperatura, cor aparente e turbidez, conforme protocolos padronizados. Ao longo do desenvolvimento dos trabalhos foram percorridos aproximadamente 420 km e avaliadas amostras de água de 15 escolas, sendo 9 da zona urbana e 6 da zona rural, selecionadas de tal forma a garantir distribuição espacial suficiente para cobrir boa parte da extensão territorial do município. Das 15 escolas analisadas somente 3 atenderam a todos os padrões de potabilidade, representando apenas 20% do total. As demais escolas apresentaram um ou mais parâmetros em desconformidade legal, totalizando 80% das unidades avaliadas.
