Teknologi 5G hadir untuk memecahkan masalah dan kebutuhan untuk meningkatkan efisiensi dan kapasitas jaringan, peningkatan data rate dengan cakupan yang lebih baik pada konsumsi daya yang rendah. Maka dari itu diperlukan suatu perancangan antena yang cocok untuk komunikasi nirkabel 5G guna mencapai bandwidth yang lebih besar, radiasi yang lebih baik, efisiensi antena yang lebih baik, dan kinerja yang baik. Sebagai generasi baru jaringan komunikasi 5G memiliki keunggulan transmisi data rate yang tinggi dan pemanfaatan sumber spektrum dibandingkan dengan jaringan 4G dan cakupannya juga sangat meningkat. Telah banyak dilakukan kegiatan penelitian diseluruh dunia untuk memajukan jaringan nirkabel berikutnya yaitu 5G atau generasi kelima.Teknik MIMO merupakan teknik yang menggunakan multi antena baik pada transmitter maupun receiver. MIMO adalah salah satu teknik yang dapat meningkatkan performansi jaringan 5G. Antena MIMO dibuat lebih dari satu antena pemancar dan lebih dari satu antena penerima bertujuan untuk memanfaatkan propagasi multipath.Dalam perancangan antena MIMO empat elemen kali ini menggunakan patch berbentuk monopole yang diminiaturisasi, ini bertujuan untuk mengurangi ukuran patch dari antena tersebut. Beberapa penelitian sebelumnya juga telah dilakukan miniaturisasi patch antena diantaranya adalah Vladimir Ssorin dilakukan perancangan dan realisasi antena dengan bentuk patch yang diminiaturisasi yang diaplikasikan untuk USB Dongle [1].
