Globalization an offshoot of imperialist capitalist expansion had come to be regarded as what no country of the world can ignore in order to achieve sustainable development. However, though taunted as a panacea for development, it had equally been recognized as having negative effects, of which had aggravated unemployment through economic liberalization practices, thereby exacerbating the level of poverty among developing countries, including Nigeria. There had equally been rising trend of human trafficking in Nigeria as globalization continued to expand. The study therefore examined the relationship between globalization and rising level of human trafficking in the country. Utilizing descriptive survey design, the study which adopted triangulation method, used multi-stage sampling technique to locate respondents from 3 states in Nigeria; Edo, Lagos and Ogun. The methods of data collection were questionnaire, interview and focused group discussion; 544 copies of the questionnaire was administered, 15 key informants interviewed and 2 focused group discussions conducted. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data was content analyzed. The study found that globalization had a direct link to rising human trafficking in the country. Infrastructure development has been a source of concern for most developing countries. The enormous resources needed to provide public infrastructure makes it prohibitive for countries with weak economies The inability of Nigeria to effectively manage it resources have also rub off on the development of public infrastructure in the country. Given the proposition of scholars that infrastructural development has a very strong relationship to economic growth as well as the well being of the poor in any developing societies, infrastructure development becomes both an economic as well as a political matter. The study investigated the political economy of infrastructure development in Ogun State, Nigeria from 2003 to 2011. Using in-depth interview of 52 respondents which included, key political functionaries, community leaders and private citizens, as well as observation carried out through visit of local government in the state, and documentary review of vital government publications, the study found that the adoption of direct labour approach led to drastic reduction in the cost of infrastructure development in the state. There was massive development of human capacity in the construction sector, as well as economic growth through boosting of the local economy as income and profits were ploughed back into the economy as against repatriation of profits by foreign construction companies. Other states and the federal government should adopt direct labour approach in order to achieve sustainability in infrastructure development, as well as economic development which it engenders.
The public administration system in Nigeria which has been traditional and patterned towards the bazaar canteen model of Riggs has over the years led to gross inefficiency and inability to meet the needs of the citizenry. The failings of the traditional administrative system necessitated an investigation of the adoption of collaborative governance regime as a tool for achieving responsive governance. The study conducted in Ogun State, one of the 36 states in Nigeria, utilized qualitative data, and primary data were collected through interview of 97 respondents drawn from eight selected local governments in the state. The key informants included top government officials at state and local government levels, career civil servants, community leaders, traditional rulers, as well as members of the Ogun State Council of Elders. The adoption of collaborative governance between the state government and the Ogun State Council of Elders led to resolution of several crises in the state; economic development programmes and projects; enhancement of qualitative education in the state; effective poverty reduction; and grassroots development. The study suggested that embracing collaborative governance regime in a prismatic society such as Nigeria ensures the attainment of responsive governance in the society, and equally short circuit the excesses of corrupt officials following the involvement of educated and enlightened citizens.
