Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, özel yetenek tanısı alarak Bilim ve Sanat Merkezlerinde eğitim gören öğrencilerin okuma motivasyonlarının belirlenmesidir. Böylece zihinsel beceriler açısından kolay ve çabuk öğrenen, güçlü hafızaya ve eleştirel düşünme becerisine sahip, dil ve konuşma becerisi açısından kendi yaşıtlarına göre daha üst düzey beceri gösteren özel yetenekli çocukların okumaya yönelik motivasyon düzeylerinin yaşıtlarına göre durumu ortaya çıkarılacaktır. Nicel araştırma yöntemi kullanılarak yapılandırılan bu çalışmanın araştırma deseni ise tarama modelidir. Araştırma verilerinin toplanması için seçkisiz olmayan örnekleme yaklaşımından amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Amaçlı örnekleme yöntemine uygun olarak veriler Tokat ve Turhal ilçesinde eğitime devam eden ilkokul 3.ve 4.sınıf düzeyindeki özel yetenek tanısı alıp Bilim ve Sanat Merkezine giden öğrenciler ile ortalama yeteneğe sahip olup normal eğitime devam eden öğrencilerinden elde edilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, Bilim ve Sanat Merkezlerinde eğitime devam devam eden 61 özel yetenekli öğrenciler ile normal ilkokullarda eğitime devam eden 59 ortalama yeteneğe sahip ilkokul öğrencilerinden oluşmaktadır. Veriler öğrencilerinden ‘Okuma Motivasyonu’ ölçeği kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Ölçeğin Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı .93 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Ölçeklerden elde edilen veriler JAMOVİ 1.8.1 ve SPSS 22 programları kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin analizine başlanmadan önce, verilere yönelik olarak normallik testleri uygulanmıştır. Normallik testleri sonucunda verilerin normal dağılmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu yüzden verilerin analizinde Man Whitney U testi uygulanmıştır. Ayrıca araştırmada ölçeğin alt boyutları olan içsel ve dışsal motivasyona yönelik analizler de yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda özel yetenekli tanısı alan kız öğrencilerin okuma motivasyonlarının, erkek öğrencilere göre daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca özel yetenekli çocukların okuma motivasyonlarının ortalama yeteneğe sahip çocuklara göre daha fazla olduğu gözlemlenmiştir.
