When 14C02 was supplied to a limited area of a mature illuminated leaf of soybean, the radioactive compounds appeared rapidly in the root, the apex of the shoot, and in young unexpanded leaves. Translocation to these "sinks" took place in the light, during photosynthesis at the source.
