Nano science is considered to be an important area in research in which developing nontoxic, reliable and ecofriendly synthesis of nanoparticles by the green approach has a vital part. Nanoparticles that contain antimicrobial and antioxidant properties are considered to be a new trend for developing therapeutic agents that help in killing drug resistant pathogenic microorganisms. The present study is focused on discovering the antioxidant properties of copper nanoparticles synthesized from dried ginger. Dried ginger is a traditional medicine used widely and has shown to possess good antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. The phytochemical compounds of dried ginger can act as a reducing agent to synthesize copper nanoparticles. Copper nanoparticles were preferred for this study as it has unique physical and chemical properties. There are various methods used to synthesize nanoparticles and here in this study we have used the green synthesis method for synthesizing the copper nanoparticles. The copper nanoparticles were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy and its antioxidant property was evaluated by DPPH assay.

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a Gram-negative opportunistic human pathogen that mainly infects immunocompromised individuals and patients with urinary tract infection and chronic infections of the respiratory pathways, including cystic fibrosis. Many quorum sensing (QS) controlled components such as bio surfactants and swarming motilities play an important role in the establishment of biofilms. Targeting these factors through anti-QS strategies prevent biofilm formation and treating infections. Coccinia indica commonly called little gourd is used to treat diabetes, wound, burn infections and has antioxidant, antibacterial and antitussive properties. Methods: The methanolic fruit extract of C. indica was prepared and screened for anti-QS and anti-biofilm formation activity. Pyocyanin inhibition, rhamnolipid, crystal violet staining assay tests was performed and the extract was observed under fluorescent microscope. Results: The results obtained are as follows - the fruit extract inhibits the pyocyanin at 58.13% and 42.27% at 0.5 mg/ml and 1.0 mg/ml, biofilm at 69.86% and 49.06% at 0.5 mg/ml and 1.0 mg/ml, inhibits rhamnolipid assay and under fluorescent microscope it is seen scattered whereas control produce biofilm matrix like appearance. Conclusion: Since less study has been made on the quorum sensing and biofilm activity of C.indica our study aimed to fulfil it and it was found that it exhibits good biofilm formation and thus can be used for treating infections.

Introduction: Root canal treatment is considered a procedure in endodontics that requires more focus and precision.It is a type of endodontic treatment that is mainly used to repair and save a badly injured or infected tooth. Most dental students feel that they are not prepared well enough to carry out the treatment while practising due to the presence of levels of difficulty of the root canal.Due to the gradual increase in the life expectancy among population and desire of individuals in preserving their natural teeth, an increasing demand for these endodontic treatments and are bound to increase in the years ahead. Aim: Gather information from students regarding their perception of fear of performing RCT, how they self‑evaluate their confidence level while performing in patients and difficulties faced by them. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire based survey was conducted to 100 dental students from pre-clinical second years to interns of saveetha dental college.The survey was conducted online and consisted of 15 questions based on the perception of fear among the students while performing RCT in patients after which the survey was summarised and analysed statistically using SPSS version 23.0.

Objectives: Hydrocotyle sibthorpiodes is known to contain several phytoconstituents which are constantly involved in the formation of Silver nanoparticles that may affect several multi-drug resistant microbes. Therefore, the study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of different concentration of nano silver solution on three bacterial isolates. It was also aimed to qualitatively assess the different phytoconstituents responsible for the synthesis.Methods: Three bacterial isolates of Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeroginosa and Staphylococcus aureus were identified. Synthesis of AgNPs with different concentration (2/4/6/8/10μl/ml) was done and applied to the selected isolates. The phytochemical compounds of the ethyl acetate extract were assayed by several colored reactions qualitatively. Results:The size and stability biosynthesis of the metallic silver nanoparticles were confirmed by photophysical characterization as well as SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), XRD (XRay Diffraction), Zeta potential and DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) with an average size of 13.37 ±10 nm. The increasing concentration of the particle solution showed significant inhibition zone for all the three isolates viz., Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeroginosa and Staphylococcus. aureus showing the value of 3.0±0.17, 2.7±0.32 and 3.6±0.57 respectively for 10 μl/ml concentration. Phytochemical screening of the whole plant extract also revealed an array of bioactive compounds which may have an effective role in the reduction process. Conclusion:The study demonstrated a simple, efficient and eco-friendly synthesis of stable silver nanoparticles from the ethyl acetate extract of Hydrocotyle sibthorpiodes having fairly superior antimicrobial activity against human pathogens.
