INTRODUCCIÓN: En los deportes Paralímpicos, las personas con amputaciones pueden competir utilizando prótesis mecánicas sin cambiar su clasificación funcional, pero estudios han demostrado que uno de los facilitadores en la participación rendimiento deportivo son los componentes protésicos óptimos, pudiendo llegar a ser una pieza clave en el nivel competitivo. En este estudio, presentamos el caso de una atleta paralímpica de 18 años con el diagnóstico de deficiencia congénita transversal de antebrazo izquierdo, que compite en pruebas de velocidad y sentía que su rendimiento deportivo se veía limitado al correr con su prótesis mecánica convencional.
MÉTODOS: Para diseñar la prótesis analizamos vídeos de competencias atléticas paralímpicas y se consideraron las variables de peso de la prótesis, conceptos aerodinámicos y necesidades de la paciente. Para evaluar el nuevo diseño comparamos los tiempos de carrera sin prótesis con los tiempos obtenidos con su prótesis convencional y con su prótesis deportiva, la satisfacción de la atleta se objetivó utilizando la escala de Goal Attainment Scale (GAS) y su rendimiento deportivo.
RESULTADOS: En una carrera de 200m, la atleta registró 29,7 seg sin prótesis, 28,9 seg con su prótesis convencional con gancho mecánico, y 28,3 seg con su nueva prótesis deportiva. Usando el GAS, la paciente refirió una satisfacción de +2.
CONCLUSIONES: Se presenta el diseño del prototipo de una prótesis deportiva innovadora, diseñada especialmente para correr pruebas de velocidad y que logró tener una contribución positiva en el rendimiento deportivo de la atleta.
