The influence of the austenite phase (gamma iron dissolved in carbon) in the corrosion resistance of 18Cr-18Mn steel was studied. The percentage of austenite in the steel was calculated using the (Cr eq /Ni eq ) equation. In order to obtain the impedance value of the steel exposed to a corrosive saline environment, Bode diagrams were obtained at 8, 16 and 24 hours of exposure. The results obtained indicate that an increase of the austenite phase in the steel, also produces an increase in various steel properties, such as steel impedance and polarization resistance (Rp). On the other hand, it was observed that the impedance value of the forged 18Cr-18Mn steel increases when the steel is immersed in a saline solution.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
