The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of partial shading on energy output of different Solar Photovoltaic Array (SPVA) configurations and to mitigate the losses faced in Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) systems by incorporating bypass diodes. Owing to the practical difficulty of conducting experiments on varied array sizes, a generalized MATLAB M-code has been developed for any required array size, configuration, shading patterns, and number of bypass diodes. The proposed model which also includes the insolation-dependent shunt resistance can provide sufficient degree of precision without increasing the computational effort. All the configurations have been analyzed and comparative study is made for different random shading patterns to determine the configuration less susceptible to power losses under partial shading. Inferences have been drawn by testing several shading scenarios.
The aim of this study is to investigate the harmful effects of partial shading of series and parallel connected Solar PV modules and compare their performance. In order to find which connection is less susceptible to partial shading effects, a PSPICE simulation model that represents 36 cells PV module under partial shaded conditions has been used to test several shading profiles and results are presented.
This study presents the control and modelling of modular multilevel converter (MMC) with grid-connected photovoltaic system. Synchronisation is an important issue in grid-connected system. Even though conventional proportional-integral (PI) controller used for synchronisation provides adequate performance, it yields poor transient response of the system because of poor tuning of controller gain values. In this study, the fuzzy tuned PI controller is designed and implemented to overcome this problem. The fuzzy logic controller refrains the controller gains based on the operating point of the system. The improved performance parameters such as faster transient response, tracking of the reference current with low overshoot and short settling time with system parameter changes under partial shading of the proposed controller are validated. The results are compared with conventional PI controlled grid-connected MMC with various PI gains. The developed controller algorithm is implemented through TMS320F28335 digital signal processor.
Circuit model of photovoltaic (PV) module is presented in this paper that can be used as a common platform by material scientists and power electronic circuit designers to develop better PV power plant. Detailed modeling procedure for the circuit model with numerical dimensions is presented using power system blockset of MATLAB/Simulink. The developed model is integrated with DC-DC boost converter with closed-loop control of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm. Simulation results are validated with the experimental setup.
