SummaryMono-, di-and tri-bromo methane were irradiated with thermal neutrons, and the total and fractional organic yields of 80m Br and 82 Br were studied, as a function of bromine scavenger concentration. The results confirm the previous observations that the rupture of a C-Br bond requires kinetic energy which can equally well be furnished by 80, "Br and 82 Br. Hydrogen atom substitution seems to be a characteristic consequence of Auger processes and as such, is more easily caused by 82 Br. The phase effects were difficult to interpret but helped in understanding some of the mechanisms connected with radical recombinations.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
