This paper describes a mathematical solution to the problem of the diffraction of an electromagnetic wave by a finite set of conductors having the form of thin wires and which are parallel to the electrical component of the incident field. These conductors could be -continuous, -loaded with, localized impedances equally spaced from each other, -cut in equal length segments and equally spaced in a collinear alignment of dipoles. Any spacing between wires could be used. The radiation pattern obtained by the numerical calculations relative to a model of 200 conductors are compared to the corresponding experimental pattern. The possibility of building an antenna for electronic scanni-ng is deduced from this study, and the results obtained on an experimental antenna are given. Some advantages of this new concept are enumerated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
