An attempt has been made to measure the rate of change of superconducting transition temperature Tc, as a function of surface charge density σ, in tin films. For films having thicknesses of 190, 670, and 1460 Å, |dTc/dσ| was found in all cases to be less than 30 deg cm2 C−1, the limit of sensitivity of the present apparatus. This negative result is compared with Glover and Sherrill's finding that in a tin film 70 Å thick, dTc/dσ = −460 deg cm2 C−1.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
