RESUMO: Embora as principais causas da obstrução de gotejadores sejam conhecidas, os processos envolvidos são pouco estudados. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar o desempenho de gotejadores submetidos a água com partículas de argila em suspensão. Para isso, foram realizados ensaios em condições controladas para avaliar a sensibilidade dos gotejadores à obstrução. Foram utilizados materiais de argila de duas naturezas, caulinita e montmorillonita, com diferentes concentrações. As concentrações utilizadas foram: 500; 750; 1000 e 2000 mg L-1. Foram utilizados dois modelos de tubogotejadores, um modelo de menor vazão (0,6 L h-1) e uma de maior vazão (1,7 L h-1). O experimento foi realizado na Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz" (ESALQ-USP), Piracicaba, SP. Os resultados demonstraram que as concentrações de partículas de argila em suspenção apresentam potencial para interferir sobre o desempenho dos gotejadores, principalmente em concentrações superiores 1000 mg L-1. O modelo de gotejador de menor vazão foi mais suscetível a variação dos valores de vazão quando comparado com o modelo de maior vazão.

Por isso, um projeto de norma tem sido proposto para avaliação da sensibilidade de emissores sob condição de risco de obstrução. O método tem como base um procedimento desenvolvido e utilizado por um laboratório da França.
