Mass separated sources of 227 Pa (separated as [Formula: see text] ions) were used to study the level structure of 223Ac following alpha decay. The levels in 223 Ac are interpreted as K=5/2± and K=3/2± parity doublet bands which occur naturally in reflection asymmetric models and the multiphonon octupole model. The anomalous structure of the K=3/2− band is explained in terms of Coriolis coupling. The low lying parity doublet bands in 223 Ac , 225 Ac , and 227 Ac are compared and contrasted.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
