synopsisTelechelic elastomers, polymers with reactive terminal groups, can be prepared in emulsion and solution systems. Examples of characterization of the polymers and preparation of a mercapto telechelic copolymer in an emulsion system and of mercapto-, hydroxy-, and aziridinyl-telechelic elastomers in solution systems are given. The elastomers were cured in peroxide or sulfur-accelerator formulations. The telechelic polymers exhibited enhanced stress-strain and dynamic properties in comparison to those of the controls. In tread formulations, outstanding properties were obtained for the mercapptoand axiridinyl-telechelic butadiene-styrene copolymers.
synopsisA study was made of ethylenepropylene terpolymerization with fulvenes and various acetylenes. Vinylacetylene, %methyl-1-buten-3-yne (isopropenyl-acetylene) or 6,6dimethylfulvene in conjunction with ethylene and propylene formed terpolymers which contained conjugated double bonds. The presence of conjugated double bonds was established by infrared and ultraviolet analyses. The terpolymers were randomly unsaturated with sufficient unsaturation to be sulfur-vulcanized.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
