Prostate cancer is a leading cause of death among the aging men. Surgical or radiotherapy is effective when the cancer is confined to the prostate gland but once the cancer spreads beyond the pelvis even chemotherapy and hormonal ablation therapy fails in curing this disease. Our previous studies have shown that diallyl disulfide (DADS) induces cell cycle arrest and also induces apoptosis in PC-3 cells. And now the present study is focused to see whether there is an activation of caspase cascade pathway. Hence, in the present study the apoptotic effect of DADS is studied by Western blot analysis of caspase-3, -9, -10 and Bcl-2, Bad, and Bax protein. The Apoptotic cells were assessed by Hoechst 33342 staining with 25 and 40 microM concentrations of DADS for 24 h. The results have shown that DADS at 25 and 40 microM concentrations has induced the activation of caspases. There is a significant increase in the expression of caspases (3, 9, and 10). The proapoptotic protein Bax has significantly increased at 40 microM of DADS treatment and there is significant increase of Bad protein at both the concentration. Bcl-2 protein has significantly decreased in DADS treated cells. Therefore, the present investigation serves as evidence that DADS may be a therapeutic drug in the treatment of prostate cancer.
Objective: Estimation of serum zinc and copper levels in anemic patients. Methods:The study design included 30 subjects presenting to clinical laboratory, global hospitals. The subjects were divided into 2 groups. The Group 1 consists of 15 healthy individuals and Group 2 consists of 15 anemic patients. Results:The serum copper and zinc levels were evaluated in anemic patients. The serum copper and zinc were found to be significantly lower in anemic patients when compared with normal individuals.
Oral cancer is a major disease prevalent all over the world. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a well-known disorder that accounts for more than 90% of all oral cancers. Five percent of all tumors occur in the head and neck, and approximately half of those occur specifically pertaining to the oral cavity. Tretinoin biofilm is a cost-effective alternative method used in the chemoprevention of oral cancer. All relevant search engines (google scholar, PubMed, etc.) searched for the literature pertaining to oral cancer, chemopreventive methods and the use of Tretinoin 'biofilm' in oral cancer prevention. The data was collected, and quality analysis of the collected data was done. The knowledge in the current point of time analysed and thus the consensus was established. Oral cancer has proved to be a major disease with major health issues leading to morbidity and mortality among the patients. The treatment for oral cancer is expensive and invasive and hence cannot be approached by everyone, leading to unfortunate consequences. This technique if successful, has the potential to be employed worldwide to treat oral cancer patients leading to the betterment of health and lifestyle.
Globally the major cause of cancer associated death among women is breast cancer. Reports showed that all over world approximately 1.15 million women are affected by breast cancer. Lack of awareness and late diagnosis are the prime reasons behind the raising mortality associated with breast cancer. Breast cancer is becoming the principal cause of mortality worldwide and has greater impact in developing countries. The aim of the present study is to access the knowledge and awareness on risk factors of breast cancers among homemakers. About 150 participants were involved in the study. Self-administered questionnaire of close ended questions was prepared related to risk factors, symptoms, diagnostic modalities, prevention and treatment of breast cancer and distributed among homemakers through online survey forms. In the present study about 62.7% were aware of risk factors of breast cancer and 37.3% were not aware. Regarding the information source of breast cancer risk factors, most of the participants (43.3%) responded to from school or college education. The majority of the participants (60.7%) were aware that breast cancer is among the most prevailing cancers among women. Regarding the risk factors of breast cancer, 36% responded to obesity,10% responded to advanced age and 54% responded to family history of breast cancer. The majority of the participants (56.7%) responded age as a major risk factor. In the present study, knowledge and awareness on the breast cancer, risk factors among homemakers is moderate.
