This study aimed to develop a simple but effective mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion for harvesting hydrokinetic energy based on triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) technology. Here, a direct-current fluid-flow-based TENG is reported as a potential solution to solve the inconvenience of directly powering electronic devices where direct-current (DC) power is required. The falling of a water droplet (about 1.06 mL) from an elastomeric pipe can generate an open-circuit voltage of ~35 V, short-circuit current of 3.7 µA, and peak power of 57.6 µW by passing through a separated electrode. Notably, the electrical responses have the distinct characteristics of pulsed direct current. The ability to generate DC outputs enables the TENG to directly drive electronic devices. Our experimental results prove that this TENG can act as a power source to directly light up 50 light-emitting diodes without requiring a rectifier, and, also, the produced electric energy was demonstrated that can be stored directly in a capacitor to power commercial temperature and humidity IoT sensors. Furthermore, the device shows a greatly varied output voltage based on the droplet flow rate, with a linearity R2 = 0.998. This work highlights a promising potential for applications in harvesting hydrokinetic energy and self-powered sensors and systems.

Local actors appear as inseparable components of the integrated flood risk mitigation strategy in Vietnam. Recognizing this fact, this study examined the long-term improvement in precautions taken by commune authorities and households between two major floods in 1999 and 2017 by applying both quantitative and qualitative methods. Two flood-prone villages were selected for a survey; one in a rural area and the other in a suburban area of Thua Thien Hue Province, central Vietnam. The findings indicate that most villagers doubted the structural works’ efficacy and were dissatisfied with the current efforts of local authorities. Households’ self-preparation thus became the decisive factor in mitigating risk. While most households have paid greater attention to flood precautions in 2017, others seem to be lagging. Poverty-related barriers were the root causes restraining households in both rural and suburban villages. The suburban riverine residents were further identified as vulnerable by their limitations in upgrading structural measures, which was ascribed to the inconsistency in the ancient town’s preservation policy. This multidimensional comparison, in terms of vulnerability, emphasized the importance of space-function links in the suburb and the contradictions of different policy initiatives, such as landscape rehabilitation, disaster prevention, and livelihood maintenance.

This work introduces a novel approach for enhancing the performance of a triboelectric generator (TEG) by using a solid–liquid interface-treated foam (SLITF) as its active layer, combined with two metal contacts of different work functions. SLITF is made by absorbing water into a cellulose foam, which enables charges generated by friction energy during the sliding motion to be separated and transferred through the conductive path formed by the hydrogen-bonded network of water molecules. Unlike traditional TEGs, the SLITF-TEG demonstrates an impressive current density of 3.57 A/m2 and can harvest electric power up to 0.174 W/m2 with an induced voltage of approximately 0.55 V. The device generates a direct current in the external circuit, eliminating the limitations of low current density and alternating current found in traditional TEGs. By connecting six-unit cells of SLITF-TEG in series and parallel, the peak voltage and current can be increased up to 3.2 V and 12.5 mA, respectively. Furthermore, the SLITF-TEG has the potential to serve as a self-powered vibration sensor with high accuracy (R2 = 0.99). The findings demonstrate the significant potential of the SLITF-TEG approach for efficiently harvesting low-frequency mechanical energy from the natural environment, with broad implications for a range of applications.

This study aims to investigate the indigenous knowledge (IK) of three ethnic minority groups in the Northern Mountain Region (NMR) of Vietnam. The groups include (1) Tay people who live at lower elevations; (2) a Dao community who tend to live in the middle elevations and (3) Hmong farmers who mainly reside at higher elevations areas of the mountain. This research intends to identify climate change (CC) and its impact on agricultural cultivation and find out how these groups can adapt to CC by applying their IK in agriculture practices. Data was collected through focus group discussions (n=9), in-depth interviews (n=80), and participant observation. From the 80 respondents, 27 live in Bac Kan province, 23 in Yen Bai province and 30 in Son La province; those who had experience in agricultural production, elderly and village heads. The results show that the NMR weather has significant changes that negatively impact agriculture cultivation and local livelihood. Although the respondents are from different ethnic minorities, these farmers are highly aware of the CC risks, leading into adaptation practices. While the Tay people's major adaptation strategies include the use of a variety of native plants and changing planting calendars, the Dao and Hmong people apply intercropping and local techniques methods in terracing fields using local varieties of livestock. Our findings highlight the importance of using the IK of ethnic minorities in adaptation towards CC. A better targeting about the use of local resources in future national policies and projects is encouraged. Nghiên cứu này nhằm thu thập kiến thức bản địa (IK) của ba nhóm dân tộc thiểu số ở Miền núi phía Bắc (MNPB) của Việt Nam bao gồm (1) dân tộc Tày chủ yếu sống ở vùng thấp; (2) Người Dao có xu hướng sống ở các độ cao trung bình; và (3) người Hmông chủ yếu cư trú ở các khu vực đồi núi cao. Nghiên cứu này nhằm xác định tình hình biến đổi khí hậu (BĐKH) và tác động của nó đối với sản xuất nông nghiệp, đồng thời tìm hiểu cách thức các nhóm dân tộc thiểu số này có thể thích ứng với BĐKH bằng cách áp dụng các kiến thức bản địa của họ vào thực tiễn sản xuất nông nghiệp. Dữ liệu được thu thập thông qua thảo luận nhóm tập trung (n = 9), phỏng vấn sâu (n = 80) và quan sát người tham gia. Trong số 80 người được hỏi, có 27 người sống ở tỉnh Bắc Kạn; 23 người ở tỉnh Yên Bái và 30 người ở tỉnh Sơn La, là những người có kinh nghiệm sản xuất nông nghiệp, người cao tuổi và trưởng thôn. Kết quả cho thấy thời tiết ở khu vực MNPB đã có những thay đổi so với trước gây tác động xấu đến canh tác nông nghiệp và sinh kế của cộng đồng. Mặc dù những người được hỏi từ các dân tộc khác nhau nhưng họ đều nhận thức được sự thay đổi này của thời tiết, do đó họ đã có những thích ứng riêng. Trong khi người Tày sử dụng giống cây trồng địa phương và thay đổi lịch thời vụ thì người Dao và Hmong chọn phương pháp xen canh và áp dụng kỹ thuật bản địa trên đất ruộng bậc thang và sử dụng gióng vật nuôi bản địa. Các phát hiện của chúng tôi giúp hiểu được tầm quan trọng của việc sử dụng IK trong thích ứng với BĐKH của các dân tộc thiểu số, từ đó có thể hướng đến mục tiêu tốt hơn việc sử dụng các nguồn lực địa phương trong các chính sách và dự án quốc gia trong tương lai.

In order to meet the growing demand for sustainable and renewable energy, significant processes have been achieved in the energy harvesting field in recent years. Due to its strong polarity property and superior mechanical characteristics, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) serves as the most attractive material for a liquid-solid triboelectric nanogenerator (LS-TENG). PVDF-based TENG has come a long way thus far. Hence, we developed a high-performance magnetoelectric (ME) nanocomposite membrane made of PVDF and CoFe2O4 nanoparticles for application in the triboelectric layer of the LS-TENG device. Due to the large magnetic anisotropy of CoFe2O4, a strong interaction between the electromagnetic phase and the crystalline phase could well be established. Moreover, a chemical technique is used to introduce 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (POTS) with a reasonably extended fluoride chain to increase the dispersion of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles in the PVDF. Thus, the crystalline β phase of the membrane increased to 77.7% with 10 wt.% CoFe2O4 and reached a maximum value of 85.4% with 10 wt.% CoFe2O4@POTS in PVDF matrix, indicating an increase in polarity property and dielectric constant of the nanocomposite membrane. Besides, the CoFe2O4/PVDF-based TENG also delivers a power density of 1.62 W/m2, which is 2.7 higher than the pure PVDF-based TENG. This work demonstrates a novel technique for increasing the β phase of the CoFe2O4/PVDF nanocomposite membrane, which could also improve the LS-TENG output performance for real-life applications in energy harvesting.

Recently, there has been a growing need for sensors that can operate autonomously without requiring an external power source. This is especially important in applications where conventional power sources, such as batteries, are impractical or difficult to replace. Self-powered sensors have emerged as a promising solution to this challenge, offering a range of benefits such as low cost, high stability, and environmental friendliness. One of the most promising self-powered sensor technologies is the L–S TENG, which stands for liquid–solid triboelectric nanogenerator. This technology works by harnessing the mechanical energy generated by external stimuli such as pressure, touch, or vibration, and converting it into electrical energy that can be used to power sensors and other electronic devices. Therefore, self-powered sensors based on L–S TENGs—which provide numerous benefits such as rapid responses, portability, cost-effectiveness, and miniaturization—are critical for increasing living standards and optimizing industrial processes. In this review paper, the working principle with three basic modes is first briefly introduced. After that, the parameters that affect L–S TENGs are reviewed based on the properties of the liquid and solid phases. With different working principles, L–S TENGs have been used to design many structures that function as self-powered sensors for pressure/force change, liquid flow motion, concentration, and chemical detection or biochemical sensing. Moreover, the continuous output signal of a TENG plays an important role in the functioning of real-time sensors that is vital for the growth of the Internet of Things.

This paper presents the the methods to determine the atmospheric corrosiveness by new ISO 9223-2012 standard using the meteorological-environmental parameters or corrosion rate of standard metal samples in 1 year. The meteorological- environmental data of the climatic testing stations of Russian - Vietnamese tropical center and their corrosivenessare are given. In addition the corrosion rate of metal samples in these stations is determined. The meteorological-environmental data and corrosion rate of standard metal samples can predict the lifetime and capacity of metallic details and techniques made of the experimental metalls.
