To study the effect of high temperature on the dynamic mechanical properties and energy evolution characteristic of limestone specimens, the basic physical parameters of limestone specimens that cool naturally after experiencing high temperatures of room temperature (25°C), 200°C, 400°C, and 600°C were tested. In addition, compression tests with 6 impact loading conditions were conducted using SHPB device. The changes of basic physical properties of limestone before and after temperature were analyzed, and the relationship among dynamic characteristic parameters, energy evolution characteristics, and temperature was discussed. Test results indicated that, with the increase of temperature, the surface color of specimen changed from gray-black to gray-white, and its volume increased, while the mass, density, and P-wave velocity of specimen decreased. The dynamic compressive stress-strain curve of limestone specimens after different high-temperature effects could be divided into three stages: elasticity stage, yield stage, and failure stage. Failure mode of specimen was in the form of spalling axial splitting, and the degree of fragmentation increased with the increase of the temperature and incident energy. With the increase of the temperature, the reflection energy, the absorption energy, the dynamic compressive strength, and dynamic elastic modulus of rock decreased, while its transmission energy, the dynamic peak strain, and strain rate increased. The dynamic compressive strength, dynamic elastic modulus, dynamic strain, and strain rate of limestone specimens all increased with the increase of incident energy, showing a quadratic function relationship.

To investigate the dynamic splitting tensile mechanical property of limestone under coupled static and dynamic state, the dynamic split tensile tests of limestone under one-dimensional coupled static and dynamic load with different strain rates were performed with the help of modified split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) equipment. The dynamic splitting tensile mechanical property and energy dissipation characteristic under two stress states were also compared in this research. Test results indicated that the dynamic tensile strength of the limestone specimen increased with the increase of average strain rate, exhibiting an obvious strain rate effect. In addition, dynamic tensile strength under uniaxial state was higher than that under one-dimensional coupled static and dynamic load state under the same test condition. Moreover, the deformation modulus increased with increasing average strain rate under uniaxial state, while it decreased with increasing average strain rate under coupled static and dynamic state. Both the reflected energy and absorbed energy linearly increased with increasing incident energy. The preload in the radial direction could increase the reflected energy and decrease the absorbed energy. Moreover, the transmitted energy with preload state was slightly lower than that under uniaxial state. Finally, the dynamic tensile strength of limestone specimen increased as a power function with increasing absorbed energy.

The tensile failure of rocks is a common failure mode in rock engineering. Many studies have been conducted on the tensile strength and failure mode of rocks after high-temperature treatment under dynamic loading. However, research on the effects of high temperature on the dynamic splitting tensile characteristics of sandstone at actual high temperatures is lacking. To investigate the dynamic tensile characteristics of rocks at actual high temperatures, split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test apparatus and high-temperature environment box were used to perform dynamic splitting tensile tests under six striker velocities for sandstone specimens at 25°C–800°C. The dynamic splitting tensile strength, radial strain, average strain rate, and failure mode of sandstone under different test conditions were investigated. Test results revealed that the brittleness of sandstone specimens is enhanced at 200°C and 400°C, but slight ductility is observed at 600°C and 800°C. The strain rate effect of dynamic tensile strength is closely related to temperature. When the striker velocity exceeds 2.3 m/s, the dynamic radial strain first decreases and then increases with rising temperature. A quadratic polynomial relationship between the dynamic radial strain and temperature was observed. The temperature effect on the average strain rate is strong at low striker velocity and weak at high striker velocity. In the dynamic splitting tensile tests, high-temperature sandstone specimens are split into two semicylinders along the radial loading direction.

In order to study the physical and dynamic properties of rock after damage, an open-type saturated water freeze-thaw test at ±20°C was carried out on the limestone specimen, the size, quality, and longitudinal wave velocity with measured after freeze-thaw cycles for 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 times, and the SHPB test device was used to carry out the impact compression test with eight kinds of loading rate. This text analyzes the damage evolution characteristics on the physical properties of limestone of cycle times of freeze-thaw and discusses the dynamic compression mechanical characteristics and energy dissipation law of limestone specimens after freeze-thaw cycles. The test results show that the mass and longitudinal wave velocity of the specimen decreased and the volume and density increased. The damage factors have the quadratic function positive correlation with the cycle time of freeze-thaw. Moreover, the dynamic compression stress-strain curves of the specimens under different loading rates are similar in shape, and the curve shows an upward trend with increasing loading speed. In addition, with the loading rate increasing, the dynamic compressive strength and dynamic elastic modulus of the specimen increased and the dynamic strain decreased. In the SHPB test, the reflected energy, transmitted energy, and absorbed energy all increased linearly with incident energy. The dynamic compressive strength and absorbed energy increase as a power function, and the strain rate and absorbed energy increase as a quadratic function.

With the gradual deepening of mine excavation depth, the strong disturbance of deep strata becomes more and more obvious. Rock’s failure under blasting mainly depends on its dynamic tensile strength. The changes in rock’s dynamic properties are obviously affected by temperature and water. In order to study the dynamic tensile properties of annular sandstone specimens under the influence of temperature and water, deep sandstone was drilled, followed by water bath tests at eight temperatures (25~95°C). It can be seen from the analysis of test results that the mass and volume growth rates of the annular and the intact sandstone specimens first increased and then decreased, while the density growth rate first decreased and then increased. The mass and volume growth rates of the annular sandstone specimens were smaller, but the density growth rate was larger. Because of the increase in water temperature, the dynamic compressive strength first increased and then decreased. The dynamic tensile strength of the annular sandstone specimen was lower. The average strain rate and peak strain also showed a quadratic function relationship of first decreasing and then increasing with the increase in water temperature. The average strain rate of the annular sandstone specimen was smaller, but the peak value changed greatly. The Brazilian disc validity condition is applicable to two failure conditions of sandstone specimens. Through XRD and SEM analysis, we found that the changes in the dynamic properties of sandstone specimens were not due to their own material composition, but to the damage to their structure caused by the temperature–water coupling effect.

In order to study the influence of different thickness ratios on the mechanical properties of rock-concrete composite, a 50 mm diameter split Hopkinson pressure bar device (SHPB) was used to conduct impact loading tests on ϕ 50 mm × 50 mm cylindrical composite with sandstone thickness of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 mm. The results show that with the increase of the proportion of rock in the composite, the dynamic compressive strength increases gradually, and the dynamic elastic modulus increases linearly. When the rock thickness increases, the average strain rate decreases and the peak strain decreases. In dynamic loading combination behind the rock specimen with concrete cushion, absorb energy decrease with the increase of rock accounted concrete; when the rock is 25 mm, total absorption energy reached its lowest point; when the thickness of the rock is greater than the thickness of concrete, concrete and adjacent parts of rock joint cushion absorb the energy into a rising trend. With the increase of the proportion of rock, the degree of fragmentation of the composite specimens decreases gradually, and the fragments are mostly concrete with smaller particle size, which is correlated with the dynamic compressive strength. The rock-concrete interface is a weak surface relative to the materials on both sides.

In order to study the influence characteristics of water bath at different temperatures on rock physical and dynamic mechanical properties, a total of 15 groups of temperature-water bath treatment were carried out on coal mine roadway sandstone at 25°C∼95°C, and the basic physical parameters were tested. The impact compression test was carried out using the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) device. The results show that, with the increase of water bath temperature, the particle gap on the specimen surface increases. The volume, mass, and density of the specimens all increased with the increase of water bath temperature, and the increase was closely related to the water bath temperature. The dynamic compressive strength increases as a quadratic function of the water bath temperature, and the rate of increase is different before and after 45°C. The dynamic peak strain and average strain rate showed a quadratic function with the water bath temperature. The dynamic peak strain before 45°C decreased with the temperature increasing, and the dynamic peak strain after 45°C increased with the temperature increasing. The dynamic elastic modulus increased first and then decreased with the increase of water bath temperature and reached the maximum at 45°C. The failure pattern of sandstone is spalling. With the increase of water bath temperature, the fracture degree of the specimen gradually decreases.
