In this work, syntactic foams made of microballoons having same wall thickness ratio but with different particle size was prepared. Microballoons of three size distribution ranges were selected .The property of the syntactic foams were studied by quasi-static compression test. The experimental results show the microballoons size doesn’t influent the mechanical properties of the syntactic foam significantly. The failure mode of the syntactic foams was also studied in this work.
Isocyanate-terminated polyurethane was synthesized from polyethylene glycol and toluene disocyantes, which was used to modify the epoxy resin. D-230 was chosen as hardener to produce the PU/EP composite. The structure of composite was characterized by FTIR spectrum. Mechanical properties of the epoxy resin with different PU content were studied. Additionally, damping properties of the PU/EP composite were investigated using DMA, and the results showed that the damping properties of EP evidently improved by blending with PU and with the testing frequency increased, the spectra of tanδ-T shifted to higher temperature.
To improve brittleness and optimize interface of glass-fiber/PVC composites, reinforcing and toughening technologies for glass-fiber/PVC composites were studied. Influences of glass-fiber and diallyl orthophthalate(DAOP) resin on their mechanical properties were observed. Diallyl orthophthalate(DAOP) resin was blended with PVC in various weight ratios by melt compounding. The compatibility between diallyl orthophthalate(DAOP) resin and PVC resin was analysed by measuring the impact toughness, tensile strength and bending strength. The results clarified that each mechanical properties improved, in addition to,SEM images show that the interface of glass-fiber/PVC composites added with DAOP was much closer , PVC resin surrounds completely the glass-fiber.
Based on generalized Hele-Shaw(GHS) model, numerical simulation of
compression-molding flow of sheet molding compound (SMC) in complicated dies is realized by
control volume/finite element method (CV/FEM). Finite element computing and post analysis
programs have been written. The flow fronts of SMC charge during compression molding are
tracked, and the time needed of mold filling in complicated dies is predicted. The results of
simulation are helpful for the placement of SMC charge, the design of mold and the optimization of
technological parameters.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
